I had a faint hope that the reddit bump might get us to the first stretch goal, but I knew it was too much to hope for really.

Yeah, there's no doubt it'll reach past the first $150k, maybe as far as $175K with some intense proselytizing, but then there's another two hundred and twenty-five thousand beyond that to raise in zip time. Maybe this project's description and idea just weren't that interesting beyond the "let's see if this route is feasible" idea. Who would have bought this outright, standalone, if it were funded and created normally?
