The demon character's name is Mika - which was a frequent confusion to me because I always assumed it was a girl's name. Didn't help one of the female lead's name was Mona.

I think Mika is supposed to be a foreign name (Finnish?), if that makes it any more sensible for a guy's name. But then there's Japanese popstar Keito whose name is sometimes written "Kate"... Maybe Natsuki Itsumi just likes girls' names :D

Yes, one of the characters is indeed a demonic unicorn who has taken the form of a dead Finnish musician/idol named Mika the main characters mother was obsessed with.
I liked the part where she explained in the author's notes that this originated as a pitch to a Seinen magazine- knowing that explains a lot. It's pretty nonsensical, but entertaining.
