If it's the ep I think you are referring to... spoiler[if it's the ep where her and Batou are at the airport and she is shot by the sniper, no she's not dead, although you'll find out why in the next ep, and I don't want to spoil it (it's also not the last ep)] Yes, there is more to come, the second season, 2nd gig.

THANK GOD, that was the episode that was on tonight. DAMN I thought the Japanese animators did it again, They killed another main lead in another show tonight too. It really pisses me off when they do it but at the same time it is not expected which I love. |

Actually, this was another scene adapted from the manga.
Comparisons follow: spoiler[Manga: Kusnagi assassinates a criminal in disguise, which is caught on tape. SAC: Kusanagi goes in as The Laughing Man to get Serrano to confess, and it is caught on tape. Manga: The Minster of Home Affairs informs Aramaki, who views the "amateur" film of the assassination on the news. SAC: The Minster of Internal Affairs informs Aramaki, who views the "amateur" film of the undercover mission on the news. (After this point, Kamiyama puts his own spin on things, having Section 9 be invaded and shut down instead of following the Manga version, where the blame is mostly on Kusanagi.) Manga: Kusanagi takes a hostage and tries to board a plane. A sniper takes out her head. SAC: Kusanagi and Batou board a plane. A sniper takes out her head.] Beyond that, I do not want to spoil (since Episode 26 will more or less tell you what's going on), but if they follow the way the manga handled it, the ending of the manga should give you an idea of what really happened. |

Didn't she put the watch on her left hand? Because at the end of the episode, the "dead" Motoko didn't have the watch on.

They almost made it obvious, showing her putting it on, then showing that hand (with it off)... |

There is still one episode left before we have to wait until September, Ep. 26 is called "Stand Alone Complex" Anyways, I assume that the watch thing was really a hint that it wasn't her, and that she survived afterall. |

Probably wouldn't have too much of a "2nd Gig," otherwise. Of course, spoiler[until I noticed the hand, I was thinking "Come on! First Hughes, then Tachikomas, now Motoko??!"] |

Edit: I felt my post would be more appropriate if it were here: animenewsnetwork.com/bbs/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=161278#161278 (the other current GitS:SAC thread).

I was saying the same thing the other night too. DAMMIT why did they have to get rid of the Tachikomas, those were the best characters of the show, well non sequential characters but you get my point. |

I have a soft spot for the Tachikomas as well, but since SAC is going with a darker, more serious storyline (and 2nd GIG is probably going to push in that direction, most likely, with Mamoru Oshii providing advice), then the "cute" Tachikomas just don't have a place to fit in. |

Reguarding the Tachkomas spoiler[Acording to the recent Anime Insider issue everyone's favorite AI multi-ped tanks are back for the second season complete with new and improved AI chips allowing them to develop their own individualized personalities.] also spoiler[Some new "rookies" join Section 9 and the secondary characters from the first season (Boma, Pazu, Saito, Ishkawa) get fleshed out a little more.]

I figured spoiler[they'd be back], they're just to great an asset to not have as part of Section 9. If the Major hadn't spoiler[shipped them off to the lab], Section 9 might not have been in such a deep situation. Maybe some of the members spoiler[would still be alive and/or fighting].
