Interestingly, Pioneer also provides an English dubbed version of every song. While this is a bit disconcerting at first, the songs are sung well and their voices match the original Japanese ones pretty accurately. The only major thing going against the songs is the complete change of lyrics that each one has undergone. This isn’t a huge issue, but it’s unclear as to why Pioneer did that instead of attempting to translate the lyrics.

That is indeed true, but only for the songs in the Pretty Sammy OVAs... the dubbed versions of the songs "Sleeping Beauty on the Balcony" and "Magical Girl Pretty Sammy" from the Mihoshi Special are pretty much line-for-line identical to the gist of the Japanese lyrics, just the nonsense words ("Pipopa no pa de") and the onomatopoeia ("Fuwan powan powawawawan") don't really work in English so they're replaced by clauses that convey the intended meaning ("Say the magic words..." and "I float and sway in my sleep..." respectively). If anything, the problem with the English dubs of those two songs is that they stick so close to the Japanese lyrics that they don't even rhyme. That is, if the DVD uses the same song dubs as the old bilingual CAV LaserDisc of the Mihoshi Special... I haven't gotten the DVD of it yet.

But still, another fine review, Bamboo! Yes, I've always found the nude transformation sequences to be quite disturbing also, especially the version of Sasami's nude transformation sequence in the Mihoshi Special, where Sasami is arguably anatomically correct for a single frame depending on how you interpret the sparkly thingies. In Magical Project S, the Pretty Sammy TV series (which I've only seen for the first time very recently), Pioneer USA made her flesh-coloured transformation sequence into a rainbow-obscured transformation sequence, but left it intact for some reason on one of the extras in the first set.
