Is the Full Metal Panic any different than the anime?

My sister has the first 2 and I looked through the pictures and they look exactly the same. Is there anything in the manga that isn't in the anime?

They are very connected. Between the original FMP, Fumoffu and TSR (The Second Raid, airing now), I believe all of the manga is covered. Then again, I'm only up to Vol 8 manga (up to date releases by ADV).

Doesn't make it any less worthwhile, although the books are a little thin/expensive for my tastes.
