For the second year in a row Osamu Tezuka's epic series Buddha has won the Eisner award for best US publication of a foreign material. It was up against Blacksad: Artic Nation, Tokyo Tirbes (can't figure this one out; there were ALOT better things out there), Persepolis and Barefoot Gen.
While I often disagree with the Eisner choices (the Harvey awards are more diverse in both American comics and manga), I think it was a well deserved win for Buddha. Of course, I doubt that it would have been even nominated if Vertical didn't promote it effectivly (see Phoenix, which is just as good yet hasn't been recognised by many people in the comicbook world). I'd also like to have seen Planetes and Nausicaa nominated (it's Nausicaa for crying out loud), but the Eisners are always going to go with what's familiar to mainstream comicbook readers.
