hello all , i have a problem whith the series FLCL for a longg time , i like it as hell but each time i see it i got the feeling im not getting the true point , someone who reviewed it once said ' its actually a game between the makers and the viewer , can you find the meaning underneath all the randomness and crazyness ' ( not his exact word but thats what he ment ) soo does anyone get the point ... i feel like i understand everything and nothing , maybe thats why i like it so much ...

It's a story of growing up and facing adolesence, just covered with references, parody and other "visual treats" like a pig in shit.

Your best bet is to watch it with the commentary, in order to find what means something, and what is just there for the sake of looking good. There's obvious references to things like Initial D, Lupin the IIIrd, Southpark, and a host of other things. The commentary is really insightful though. |

 Oh boy, I can't even tell you what it means on here. Your best bet is to use a search engine to figure it out, that's what I did, and I died laughing to see what it meant.

An excerpt from Episode 6: Kamon (Naota's Dad): Naota. Tell me already. What does FLCL mean? Naota: I dunno. Kamon: C'mon! There's no way the main character wouldn't know. Shigekuni (Grandpa): We won't get mad. Tell us! Naota: You too, grandpa? It doesn't matter what FLCL is. Since it's explained so clearly, I really don't understand why people keep asking. FLCL and Fooly Cooly of the rominzations of the Japanese "furikuri." (It's an onomatopoeia.)
In the show it's meaning, much like the Japanese language, depends on the context in which it's used. Some examples: kneeding bread dough playing around (and so on) I haven't watched the show in a while so I can't list them all. If you watch the manga-like part of episode 1 (I think it's ep. 1), you'll see at least 2-3. It may take viewing the series a few times as some meanings/usages are implied. |

There is no meaning. Did you read what I posted which was a direct quote from the show? If the characters in the show don't know what it means, how are we supposed to know? |

It is BASED on an actual Japanese slang onamotopoeia, but the creator has said in an interview that it doesn't mean anything, it was supposed to sound like a shortened title but it isn't.

Yes you're overthinking it a bit, although i can see why it's a pretty wierd anime.
