Just as a note, you may want to change "Recon Corps" to the official English name of "Survey Corps."
Also, either the anime is going different from the manga, or there's spoilers in there, because Jean didn't go with Survey Corps, according to vol. 5 of the manga.

Manga spoilers: I think you must have read a different manga than I did, then...Because as far as I've read, Jean did indeed join the Survey Corps. (Or the Recon Corps. Or the Scouting Legion. Whatever we're calling it now.) Maybe he wasn't too happy about it, but I thought that decision was the biggest part of his character development...
