Well, as I'm new to this forum, I'm not exactly sure what has been posted and what hasn't. But, the reason why I'm posting is because I'm I need help. I've watched alot of anime, most of which I have liked. But, as I've noticed, there is a very common underlying trend in anime, "the end of the world, action, sci-fi," at first, I was facinated, but after so many anime's that have the same storylines, I've grown quite irritated with this genre. I watched "Love Hina" a long time ago, and its become one of my favorite anime's ever. I loved the relaxed laid back atmosphere, and the comedy was absolutely classic. My question is, with this whole comedy genre, what are some good suggestions? I've watched anime's like Chobits, Ai Yori Aoshi, Green Green, Suzuka, etc, and they have the real life aspect that I was looking for, yet in exception of Green Green, they lacked comedy. So, any suggestions?

You might want to try Here Is Greenwood. You get the nice slice of life, laid back element with a hefty dose of comedy and silliness.

Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu might be another good title to check out. It isn't precisely a "real life" story, but it's definitely a comedy.

I don't have a whole lot of experience with the comedy genre myself, so those are the only two recommendations I can give off the top of my head.

You don't have to be shy; you can use normal text size--take it easy on all of us whose eyes have been damaged by too many hours of reading subtitles Cool

Wow, this is one of the few posts I've seen from people tired of action sci-fi/stuff blowing up. So, you want light-hearted, fairly realistic romance and/or comedy Question

First off, if you liked Love Hina, you may want to look at Mahou Sensei Negima, based on (or "inspired by") another manga by the same author, with similar etchi/fanservice comedy.

Another one would be His & Her Circumstances, AKA "Kare Kano," which walks the line between zany comedy and serious romance. Some of the animation techniques are exaggerated, but it's a solid show.

Please Teacher and Please Twins are also semi-serious, semi-comedic series with some degree of unusual romance, nothing too disturbing imo. No real need to watch Please Teacher before Please Twins, though it helps to recognize some cameo appearances.

DearS follows a similar plot to Chobits, only with weird alien girls that like to play "slave" and take clothes off. There's a catgirl in there somewhere. I haven't watched DearS yet, so I can't say for sure.

Lately, I've been DLing and watching "Shuffle!", which is a little more interesting/amusing than most typical harem comedies (Futakoi, Ichigo 100% etc.), and adds an extra dimension of having "gods" and "demons" mixed in with regular humans. So really, kind of like Saiyuuki, only with cute girls instead of fighers.

Okay...as far as comedy goes...here is what I have to recommend.

Excel Saga - This one was amazing. It was a great parody of a lot of other animes as other things in the world. It was absolutely hilarious.

Azumanga Daioh - Also hilarious, but quite opposite of Excel Saga. It was very slow paced, and the humor was more subtle. Nevertheless I recommend it.

2x2 Shinobuden - (also called nin nin shinobuden and Ninja Nonsense) It's a short series, which is a parody anime on Ninjas. The first episode was very slow, but after that it picked up greatly, and was a great comedy.

Well, to keep it short I'll stop here. These are best ones I know in terms of just 'Comedy' Excel Saga and 2 x 2 Shinobuden...the plots are pretty weak, even though there is good character development, the plot kinda develops at the end...and in Shinobuden there really isn't a plot at all (which, in my opinion, adds to the humor [since they do make a weak attempt, haha]).

Anyway, these should keep you busy and provide plenty of laughs.

Eh... carfreak, I don't know if each of the recommendations so far will suit you, but I must say that your description is rather blurry. But I have two propositions for you fitting in the romance/slice-of-life/light-comedy range:

Kimagure Orange Road and Maison Ikkoku

They are both hugely popular series from the 80's (beware the art style!) which could fit your needs. I liked them back in the days, but I must say that they lost a bit of their charm on me today because I find them a bit too "teeny". The male protagonists are really to coward and missing by yards every perfect occasion to get girl, which really is too annoying and repetitive for my taste today! But since you liked Love Hina, this might be perfect for you, as the characters are likewise charming, if not more. Even if you see far fewer panties and boobies here. Wink

School Rumble is my absolute favorite comedy anime...

Lets see, it's real life school kids with a humorous chain of romances. There are two main characters who are so oblivious to everything that makes this anime definitly worth watching.
