Does anything Marvel really need a manga prequel or tie-in of any kind really?

In Japan, yes. They don't really know the Marvel heroes (few enough Americans knew the Doc to begin with), and they're not quite 100% clear on the concept of full-time Capes-For-Hire either--
There're plenty of arcane-symbol sorcerers in manga, they won't have any problem parsing that; Japanese readers just need a little push about putting this one in MCU context, and why he knows Thor and Iron Man.

Considering these are never released in the west, no, they're not needed. However manga/anime adaptions are how Marvel promotes their movies in Japan.

This is quite true. They really don't get the concept of our superheroes at all, but I guess the same can be said of us not getting the concept of theirs either.
