So I have been trying without much luck to contact ADV about this series. Do they plan to release the rest of the series? According to here, there are 7 volumes released in Japan, so why did they stall on volume 3? I am sure that it's a decent seller, and it's not out of print, so I was just wondering anyone else has any information regarding this series. Thanks!

They don't have any plans at the moment. Sadly, this series was a victim of ADV's poor decisions a couple years ago and got axed along with almost all of their other manga series. At this point in time, it doesn't look like there will ever be any more here in the U.S.

I hate when companies do that sort of thing. From everything I have heard though, ADV was never a quality place to get Manga from anyway. It just sucks that they had gotten the rights to such a good series...only to drop it like that.

As much as I may enjoy their VA's and shows they put out I must say I am very displeased with their manga department. Almost all the manga they've released has been under par as far as I'm concerned. This show and it's manga counterpart are a prime example. I thoroughly enjoyed this show. It's one of the best anime I've ever seen. I was looking very forward to reading the manga only to have disappointment jump up and bite me right on the ass. I hope they start getting their act together with their manga releases.

I think they do a good job on what they actually publish. I can't comment on the translation myself, but I haven't really heard any complaints about it and I haven't noticed any other issues.

That's what happens when invest in too many different new things (Anime Network, NewType, and the manga) without a clear vision. ADV seemed to just pick up a bunch of manga titles and start publishing them, as if they would just start flying off the shelves. As a result, they had 40 series after a year and few had significant name and selling power and a majority of them probably sold so abysmally that even decent (read: normal) sales of some series just wasn't enough so they had to pull the plug on everything but the best of sellers.
They seem to have gotten better with the exception of Yotsuba& which hasn't seen a new volume in quite a while despite having several new volumes in Japan and being a seemingly good seller.

I was rather hacked off by ADV when they abandoned this manga series, so much so that I ended up importing volumes 4-7 from Japan. My skill in reading written Japanese isn't all that great, but even by the artwork alone, I'm gutted that ADV ditched this series when they did. The plot is getting interesting as is the character development between the girls & their handlers.

Gunslinger Girl was the very first manga I ever bought and ADV's failure to continue with it annoys me to no end. If I possessed even a marginal skill for reading Japanese I'd import it. (So jealous of EVA fiend and all others here at ANN who actually understand Japanese. )
I've mentioned my displeasure a number of times in other threads, even a few that were only marginally related, but one thing I can't fault ADV for is the actual job they did with the volumes they did publish. While I can't speak for the translation, the print quality is excellent. They inlcuded color pages which almost no manga publisher in the US does and there are even some translator notes starting in Volume 2. Gunslinger Girl was a high quality release but suffered badly from ADV's poor publishing strategy.
It would be very nice to know what the actual sales figures were for this series. The anime seems to have sold well and it's going to be shown (or is it already showing?) on the IFC channel. If the manga sold well, ADV should seriously consider continuing it or another manga publisher should consider getting the rights away from them.
