Six months after the Japanese home video release if you're in Region A/North America.
That's the general release pattern.

The delay helped but I'm still not sure if I'm ready to ugly cry again when that kid holds her hand at the end. This movie deserves a lot more love than it's gotten over here.

This was always the intended story to be told, the director compromised and made a deal with the produces to get more money to animate the rest if the movie profited.
The shorter version was already good enough, but Suzu's arc suffered a bit with Rin being cut from the story.
