Once again Crunchyroll prioritizes cheap seasonal isekai over past gems like Place Further Than the Universe, Laid Back Camp, Gabriel Dropout, etc. Disappointing, though I’m happy Villainess is getting a dub and the past shows will continue (Somali all in one day? Wow).

Yesterday is one of their most popular series and no one is watching 8th Son, and they're dubbing 8th Son? I swear CR does not think an anime will do well if it's not an isekai. They did this to Eizouken last season, too. 8th Son isn't even getting ANN reviews!

I suspect that CR has access to data suggesting what they should dub. One thing I'd note is that while certain shows I think are very high quality are not necessarily extremely popular, shows can also be popular without being popular with people who want dubs, or more precisely without being the kind of show which will increase in viewership the most if a dub is added.
One of the thing that long time fans remember is that back in the VHS days, while subs were always cheaper to produce than dubs, dubbed were always priced more cheaply (say, $19.95 vs $29.95) precisely because dubs appealed to the more casual fan. Less popular shows, then as now, would get subs only, again despite dubs selling more when they both existed. Different markets. |

Yay! Somali's dub is coming back! Woohoo! And tomorrow, too! Can't wait!
Still waiting on Laid Back Camp and Place Further Than The Universe, though. |

Why are you surprised when good non-isekai shows last season like Eizouken isn't even in Crunchyroll's most popular shows? animenewsnetwork.com/interest/2020-04-14/crunchyroll-reveals-most-watched-series-for-january-to-march-2020/.158583 After all, CR seems to be bleeding money these days that they don't have budget for dubs, given that their parent company (AT&T) wants to dispose of them quickly: https://www.theinformation.com/articles/at-t-had-talks-about-selling-crunchyroll Maybe they shouldn't bought zombie companies like Viz Europe in the first place. |

Crunchyroll is dubbing the show's I expected them too, but much sooner then I was expecting.
I would've liked a dub for Yesterday but maybe it'll eventually happen...right now I think they're prioritizing, and I can't blame them for that. |

Aren't those 3 titles Crunchyroll co-productions? It makes sense for them to prioritize dubs for those shows.

I’m glad to see Crunchyroll resining dubs and that they’re doing these from home like Funimation to continue keeping the staff and cast safe. I’m looking forward to the Tower of God dub.

Given that CR only dubs a tiny % of their catalog which really restricts these shows' popularity and accessibility, does not do physical releases for their shows, and has atrocious customer support, good riddance. The fact that they're funding OEL cartoons instead of improving their back catalog is ridiculous, along with funneling so much into VRV which they've totally abandoned, and questionable purchases like Viz Europe makes me really question what goes on in that HQ. Not to mention how recently they switched away from flash. When piracy sites are running HTML5 before you, that's embarrassing. AT&T is either going to drop them or absorb them into HBO Max anyways. |

Even if CR does have Eng. dubbing rights for such shows and the shows were popular enough stream wise to get such rights, I wonder what is holding CR back. |
