I noticed a favourites thread for 2006, and so I decided to start this one. What are you looking forward to the most this year in manga?

For myself, I'm extremely anxious to get my hands on a copy of Apollo's Song, To Terra, and whatever other Tezuka manga Vertical claimed they'll be putting out this year. I'm looking forward to finishing up Death Note (I think it'll be done by the end of the year) and I"s. Mushishi is another that I already have my copy pre-ordered, so I can't wait for that to arrive.

Houshin Engi and Twin Signal (even though it got panned on this site Anime smile)

I've been excited about Houshin Engi just to see what the translation will be like. This is a series I've loved since I've seen the anime.

Twin signal is another "I saw the anime and now I want to read the manga" comic for me. I think the idea is good even if the execution isn't, and from what I've heard it takes a little while but gets better.

I agree. Death Note is one of my favorites right now. Other then that I'm really interested to see volume 2 of titles like Welcome to the NHK, Trinity Blood, and Rose Hip Zero since I'm not sure how I feel about them yet. The Tokyopop '3 months between volumes' is hard to wait out.

As far as new titles go, there haven't been too many that have caught my eye. I'm mostly excited about seeing new volumes of what I'm already reading.

Got a couple of titles that I'm looking forward to. Unfortuately, won't see either of them until the second or third quarter:

Eva:
Yeah, I've stuck out with this title since, when, 2003? It won't beat the anime by any stretch of the imagination, but it's still not a bad retelling, and I guess I just want to see how Sadamoto will finish it. Now it's just a question of when vol. 11 will see the light of day; I'm guessing first half of 2015 Razz

Excel Saga:
I'm happy Rikdo cut out the hijinks (it was getting a little old) and appears to have started the final arc hopefully. Unlike with Eva, I know that this series will reach an ending sooner than later.

And I'm also hoping for an announcement from Seven Seas regarding future licensing of the Boogiepop novels and/or manga sometime in 2007. The novels were great, and the whole disjointed timeline acting as one heck of a fill-in-the-blank game has me enthralled to find out what else is missing from the current picture.

I also look forward to the conclusion to I"s. Out of the 10 series I'm actively collecting right now, this is the only title that I actually buy upon release, as it is my favourite title right now. I also look forward to the conclusion of Genshiken.

As for new titles, so far I'm interested in Gintama. I might also start Ichigo 100%, but I'm debating whether or not it's something I'd want to read again, as I've read the scans for it already.

Besides more volumes of the series I'm already collecting (RG Veda, xxxHolic, Tsubasa, Ouran Host Club, NANA, Fushigi Yuugi Genbu Kaiden, Dramacon, Welcome to the NHK!, Angel Sanctuary, Hana Yori Dango, Nodame Cantabile, and Eternal Sabbath) I don't think there's too much. There are a few other series I have been eyeing, but I don't know of any 2007 releases that I'm particularily interested in. The only thing maybe would be TokyoPop's future plans to re-release the Sailor Moon manga and Clover, but we don't know when those will happen (if they even do).

So besides looking into new series and continuing the ones I'm following, there really isn't too much.

I won't be looking forward to any releases over here, since I read all of my manga in Japanese. However I will be looking to new releases from Japan for all of the manga series that I am reading right now. I would say that I am mostly looking forward to the latest releases in the One Piece series, because it always has me hooked and reading scanlations really takes away the excitement of when you buy the book and you're not knowing what to expect.

marie-antoinette-I'm almost certian that Tokyopop has lost the licence to Sailor Moon at this point, otherwise they would have reprinted it already. Right now I don't think it would be worth paying whatever ridiculous amount of money the rights holders in Japan want to get the licence again.

At the moment, I can't wait for the newest Vertical release, shojo-pioneer Keiko Takemiya's To Terra. From ths 16-page preview and the plot description it seems to be a Matsumoto-inspired, over-the-top space opera (which is nice considering its been years since one of those have been published in English). But my god are those page-layouts amazing. I was interested in this before because of the plot and the manga's "classic" status, but after seeing just how good a storyteller Takemiya is I can't wait to read this. Vertical is on a role now, and it should be interesting to see how a classic shojo manga is recieved (unfortunatally I get the feeling that a ton of people will ignore this because of the old school, Tezuka-inspired art).
As for other "new" series, Mushi-shi is something I'm eager to pick up despite having read it a while ago. The stories are great enoung to warrent many readings, and I'm interested to see how I look at them now that I've seen the anime adaptation. In terms of continuing series, the entire Viz Signature Series is awesome and Eden is always a intense experiece. Looking forward to finishing Love Roma and seeing how Nodame Cantable develops in future volumes.[/quote]

I'm looking foward to the continuation of Evangelion (the Sadamoto version, not the Angelic Days nonsense), Battle Angel Alita: Last Order (I think Kishiro has gone off on a tangent at the moment, but I rather like it), Claymore (I only picked up this series quite recently, but I've enjoyed what I've seen so far), & hopefully the next volume of Hellsing (I've seen the scans of vol. 8, & a lot happens in it).

But the title I'm most looking forward to is Seven Seas release of Strawberry Panic! The yuri soap opera in manga form spoiler[& you get the Etoile on a horse too, so there are two 'princes' on Astrea Hill]. "Schoolgirls in full bloom", what a subtitle! Anime hyper

I have to say that I'm going with marie-antoinette in hoping that someone will re-release the Sailor Moon manga. And if they are going to do that, hopefully we would also be able to get the Sailor V "prequel" manga as well.

Other than those, there really aren't any manga that I can think of that I'd like to see. Most of the titles that I'm aching to see are anime ones. Manga titles tend to catch my eye when I read about them here, reviews in Newtype USA or Anime Inside, or the eyecatch page in the back of a manga I'm reading. I found MeruPuri that way!

Death Note: I've been contemplating looking for a site with translated scans to kill the suspence within me already, but nothing beats reading multiple chapters at a time while lying on my couch. seven more months to know how it all ends Crying or Very sad

Nana: I blame shoujo Beat for the agonizingly slow pace that I'm getting the volumes. I've been torn whether I like this one better than ParaKiss, but volume 4 totally one uped ParaKiss as my favorite Yazawa work.

Fushigi Yugi: Genbu Kaiden: the sixth volume hasn't yet been released in Japan, so I expect it's going to take several months to know what happens next Sad

The rest of my list includes Ouran, Rozen Maiden, Chibi Vampire, Vampire Doll, Hayate the Combat Butler, XxxHolic and the only ones that I'm planning to start collecting is Welcome to the NHK.

It was reported at one of the summer 2006 conventions that TokyoPop was planning to re-release it, which suggests that they either still have the license despite rumors to the contrary or would be looking into getting it back. We haven't heard any news since however, so I'm not going to hold my breath on it, but it's still something I would look forward to if it actually comes to fruition.

I didn't think that sixth volume of Genbu Kaiden had been released in Japan. Hopefully it will be soon because I really want to know what happens next. And with NANA, I've finally folded and started reading scanlations and I do like the group that is doing them. Plus the anime is beyond the point which the manga is at in English as well (and the NANA 2 live-action does as well).

I heard that too but it sounds like a fabrication/wild speculation to me. Their licence did in fact expire in 2005 (according to their website) and now that I think about it Takuechi supposidly has frozen all licencing of the franchise, which pretty much rules out the possibility of it being relicensed. If they had managed to somehow secure the rights again in the summer they would have announced it at one of the anime cons (or even Comicon).

I'm only repeating what was announced on the news page here so I don't really know anything else, except that usually ANN's news is reliable and not fabrication or wild speculation.
