What the actual f#*k?

I saw the trailer to this anime, and the absolute only reason I watched it was because I've resolved to give 98% of the anime out there a try.

At worst, I I had morbid curiosity to see how bad this anime would get.

At best, I held out some miniscule hope that it might be enjoyably bad in the same way that "I Got A Cheat Skill in Another World and Became a Ridiculous Parody of Wish Fulfillment in The Real World Too" was enjoyably bad, but that's like hoping lightning will strike twice.

So so animation. Check. Overpowered hero with a hidden past goes to academy trope.
Check. Female lead is a red haired noble tsundere. Yeah, haven't seen that one before.
Look at his "Be my friend" shtick. That's so overdone and stupid. Wait a minute...

How the hell did I wind up liking this?

Episode 1

Damned if I know, Edjwald. Did I like it? Um... maybe? I think I need to watch a bit more to be sure.

Guess I’ll put this on the list.

Sounds like DxD meets MHA meets Cheat Skill?

It's definitely got some fan service, but when I talked about the red headed tsundere/academy princess, I was thinking more of Asterisk Wars or Chivalry of a Failed Knight or Blade of the Elementallers, (Holy crap, I could keep going) etc.

The show's not ecchi, I don't think.

Huh, it has actually been a pretty darn long time since I last saw a red haired tsundere in an anime. It almost feel refreshing. The first episode was fun enough and the premise of a hero school could be entertaining, I like how chill the mc is. Less chill is the pretty fast pacing.

Hey, Iceblade Sorceror wasn't anything great, but you don't have to repress its memory Wink

Huh, oh right, that show was so bland that I completely forgot about it.

Well, she wasn't exactly a tsundere in the "Kneel before me maggot! W...wait, wh...where are you going? I didn't say I'd mind sharing my drink with you...." sense.

I brought her up because she was a red-haired, fire-wielding noble and the number 1 at the academy, and she acted a lot tougher and angrier and colder than she really was, at least where her rival was concerned. And she came from the same visual cookie cutter mode.

Lordy, there sure is a lot of content in every episode so far. The first episode had the introduction and Earnest issues and the second episode is all about Sophie and her past/outlook on life. We also had bits of character development for Earnest this week though, she is a lot less tsun now. Mediocre animation aside, the show is a fun diversion due to how zany the whole thing is.

Well, I liked this episode as well.

Don't really have much to add. I liked Sophie. And dammit, I want a red bean bun too!

(and no, that's not a euphemism)

Episode 2

Eh, I'm not sold on this one yet. But as the image in the OP makes clear, there are still characters we haven't met yet, so I'll hang around for one or two more episodes, but if I'm still not feeling it after that, then I'm heaving this one to the curb like a trashbag full of Edjwald's soggy coffee filters.
