The first episode made this a ''watch until the end'' for me. It seems like it will be a silly/hectic fun show that looks good and has some silly gags in between. Some classic shounen anime fun with great animation is something I can appreciate and judging by the cover it gets plenty silly.

Episode 1
This definitely has a younger vibe to it than most anime I watch. Can't say I'm a huge fan of the "bratty kid protagonist" thing. No harm in checking more of it out, though. |

If the point of episode two was to make me think that Yaiba is some rowdy kid and Onimaru a villain then it sure did not work. Yaiba is one of those rare mc's where I want to see him get beaten up/lose for being an annoying prick.

Watched the first two episodes, and actually like this show a lot. It feels like a mish-mash of Dragon Ball, Ranma, and a little Detective Conan.
DB in the sense that the main character is this uncouth kid from the wilderness that's thick-headed, brash, and just wants to fight (and as a plus, has some animal friends). Ranma in the sense that he left his training/forest habitat to live with a family his dad knows, and that family just also happens to have a daughter (don't know they could end up together way down the line, if he doesn't stay a kid for the whole story). And for good measure, the designs look a little like Detective Conan. It's like the manga-ka melded all three of these shounen franchises that were all really popular at that time (late '80s to early '90s), but gave the plot his own spin with the supernatural oni thing. The animation is spectacular, and I for one, don't mind the high jinks/slapstick. It's a fresh breath of air to see that style with today's production values. Although, with that being said, Wit will probably do a cour at a time, which means more waiting between seasons. But if they can maintain that quality for the whole series, I don't mind. |

It does indeed look stunning. As of episode 3 things have escalated rather quickly. Onimaru has become a full on demon and no longer cares about killing his opponents nor anyone who stands in his way. It makes sense that Yaiba can't stand up to a sword that can cleave a building in two. Surprising is that the quest for the thunder sword was way shorter than I expected. The same can be said about the whole show, it has a pretty brisk pace. Mastering the thunder sword should take a while but who knows.

Yeah it would look like Detective Conan, its what the Mangaka did immediately after Magic Kaito flopped and apart from collecting his occasional baseball manga into one collected volume, the author went straight onto Detective Conan after it finished its five year run. The original anime adaptation came out during the manga's final year and ran for exactly one year (52 episodes) but ending before reaching the conclusion of the manga. |

Ah, okay. When I was looking up Yaiba's info, I had mistakenly thought Conan started earlier. Make's total sense, now. Thank you.

I like that Yaiba did indeed not suddenly master his new sword. He made progress during episode 4 with a new technique and being able to move swiftly but he is still far away from not turning into a demon whenever he draws. One of the demons joining up with the gang was a fun surprise and Onimaru is truly a demon now.

Most of the demons thus far have actually been good guys. The vampire with the sunglasses might be an actual villain though. I wonder if the show will have serious moments or if it is gonna stay gag heavy and nonsensical.

Episode 11 has Yaiba win the fight with Onimaru while becoming a national hero at the same time. It is such a (mostly) complete feeling ending that I had to check if the season had ended.
