Yeah I'm not too shocked, when you look at their competition they easily have the most generous payment model (even if it doesn't hold a candle to some of their manga competitors) and some great titles.

1. Webtoon (score : 100)
2. MANGA Plus by SHUEISHA : (90)

I mean Viz and Shonen Jump both let you read the latest chapters for free, you need a subscription for archived chapters but it's still less than 5 bucks a month for each.

Seeing webtoons and manhwa succeeding in the international market including the US was expected, and giving manga a run for the money is also to be expected. Also factor in the popularity of K-pop (thanks to BTS, Blackpink, etc...), and K-dramas (Squid Game dump the fuel, and K-drama adaptation of webtoon/manhwa) in the US is expected to add more to webtoons/manhwa.
