They're really living up to The Boys: Super Sentai edition where Red is falling apart and any cursory attempts to play a "genuine" hero quickly unravel because he cares more about his image than he does collateral damage or actually doing his job.

Is the OP having fun or do the Dragon Keepers actually have a Sentai Mecha?

Fighter D is as determined to beat both the Dragon Keepers and his former Boss Monsters as ever, though seems like Blue Keeper's death and growing fonder of Usukubo is weighing on his mind a little.

Oh hey, Kosuke Toriumi! Wait, wasn't he already in this show...?

I love how Pink Keeper comes off the most "normal" Keeper until you see how much of an unhinged brocon she is.

I can never complain about more Hisui.

I imagine Green Squadron is lacking in manpower because everybody else died or went MIA from hunting Boss Monsters. Um...at least they're committed to their job...?

The school time loop! Perfect for Usukubo who was enjoying herself but less so for someone who has never been to school like Fighter D.

I'm glad they brought back the puppets. And hey, more Koji Yusa!

I definitely see the parallels with The Boys but I wonder what is going to happen with Fighter D. He has to act like a good civilian but it feels like he lost the flame that made him so fun to watch in season 1 like "if I were a Keeper I would conquer the world!" or other interactions where he acts like fish out of the water who breaks the rules that surprises everybody.

It is one of those occasions where it's clear that the episode knows it can't adapt any more of the manga than it is already covering without ending in an awkward spot, so it is instead stuck playing things out maybe 15% slower than they need to be.

It's funny that you say this when this season's set to cover 75 chapters to last season's 50 and has already been trimming various moments to try making it work. I'm still holding my breath on how well it will go; the next few episodes should make it clear. Out of the content cut this season, spoiler[the JFC meeting where they discuss which battalion gets which cadet and Hisui, Suzukuri, and Madarao bowl it out for D] would be the largest one, partially because spoiler[you miss another instance of the Suzukiri/Hisui dynamic, that being Suzukiri constantly sniping at Hisui over dead Rangers, and partially because you miss Hisui vowing not to lose any more battalion members after accepting two new ones for the first time in years, adding depth to her character for the Dreamy School Life arc.]

I wish this anime had the episode count and production time to make the most of the staff's obvious passion.

The protagonist has some sort of dual personality. As Sakurama is he is kinda calm while D is more aggressive. Still, that fight scene kinda made no sense as if D didn't plan a single thing after an entire cour.

You know it's stressful when D isn't even trying to act like Hibiki any more. No surprise he eventually just 100% dropped the act.

I notice Hisui just assumed that Magatia was using Wakaba's body, he never actually confirmed it. I wouldn't be surprised if this is actually Wakaba, he just joined Magatia like Gotou did.

Finding out Hisui wasn't actually the original second-in-line of Green Squadron and had a respectful rivalry with Tokiwa, who was, really added some layers to her character. As well as how Hisui cares about the Squadron in general. It makes me wonder how Green Keeper sees all of them, especially considering how he's lost so many.

Aw, D couldn't let Usukubo remain brainwashed!

Wow, Red Keeper being useless and innocent people having to suffer for it. What a surprise. Then again, who else could they have called? Blue Keeper is dead, Yellow Keeper probably wouldn't care, Green Keeper is MIA, I feel like the only one who could have actually responded and done anything is Pink Keeper but this probably isn't her Squadrons' specialty. But I guess it goes to show how messed up everything is.

The issue with any anime adaptation is the fact that the visuals either suck or do not live up to the art of the manga. I wouldn't call the art "static". Frankly most anime look "static" in comparison

Speaking of, since Hisui was faking getting caught in Wakaba and Magatia's illusion spell the whole time, she saw that Fighter D transformed from being the old cop to his usual disguise of Hibiki, right?
Hisui wasn't faking; the shock of Wakaba being a traitor took her out of the game until around D transforming and facing off against Wakaba, as indicated by her calling him Sakurama. So who knows if she knows about him or not.

It's a real shame that the animation's not up to par. Hopefully that improves for the rest of the anime.

Yeah, I didn't think she was faking the whole time either. When she was trapped under the debris, we got what I assumed was her pov of wishing to stay in that reality, which suggested to me that she was fighting it off right about then, and only truly succeeding at the last minute.

I'm wincing at the cuts from the manga. Dreamy School Life came out alright for the most part, but we're already seeing plenty of lost nuance and impact here, again.

Man, it's not easy being Hibiki and one of the few genuinely good people in this setting. He hasn't accomplished anything since he set off on his journey and the Magatia situation got resolved with D's involvement. At least he managed to save that couple who look like they came from a completely different anime, but now I'm left wondering if the Kaiju are being created from actual people.

Maybe the Green Squadron is the most "heroic" of the Squadron since it's their job to hunt down the Boss Monsters and save people, whether they like it or not, and not get any credit for it.

Hisui looks good in green.

Happy to see Yukino again and that Urabe remembers Ranmaru.

D's time as Hibiki is starting to effect him. He cares about his squadmates, he's trying to reach an understanding between himself and the other Rangers when it comes to monsters, and he's more hesitant to go as far in his revenge spree compared to early season 1. In fact Suzukiri comes off more villainous than he does in this episode.

But speaking of, man I was happy to see Suzukiri and D reunited and back to their usual dynamic! I missed these two together. Though I also kind of felt bad for Usukubo.

Chidori has a family? Unexpected.

So was Suzukiri just waiting for a special occasion to wear her fancy date outfit and her skintight black leather catsuit with exposed cleavage? It seems like she really wanted to dress the part of a Sentai Villainess. And admittedly it's a great look for her.

Not sure how Suzukiri will be able to go back to the Ranger Force like this, even if Chidori doesn't expose her unless she actually killed Yukino she'll still probably get outted. Maybe we'll finally get her backstory as to why she's after the Divine Artifacts.

Suzukiri has a pretty OP artifact ability and is surprisingly strong, to be able to go toe-to-toe with a Dragon Keeper says as much. But the Keepers are still on a whole 'nother level.

Poor D having to face not only Green Keeper knowing who he really is but also facing his own inadequacy that he fails as a monster and is not worth Green Keepers' time.

This season is officially boned. So much character work left on the table, let alone the parts of the story that actually let the story breath. Red's assassination was a volume-ending climax, not a 2-second fart.

Yeah, it’s sad how the anime adaptation is quickly becoming the next Promised Neverland (well, not quite that bad).

but what about Yumeko? She can waltz around the Yellow Keepers' base and keep mucking up their operations without anyone being the wiser, because…she wants to, I guess?

Gonna play a devil's advocate here, but I think it was communicated rather clear. At the end of episode 7 Chidori was completely unsurprised to see her. If anything he was more like "Oh, it's Suzukiri who's violently attacking me, this makes 100% sense to me". Then this episode we see that Yellow keeper knows of her quest to gather relics. So at least some high ranking members know what's her deal is (while we as viewers do not know jack yet). But we've also seen that not all keepers are murderous psychopaths, and some of them have personal reasons to go along with organization, as corrupt as it is, so while they do not help Yumeko, seems like at least Green and Yellow would not mind that much if she succeeded in burning whole operation to the ground, or at least they respect her reasons enough to let her be.

We've also spent enough time with Chidori to know exactly why he's not bothered with D that much: he have seen that Fighter is not fundamentally evil, and they share the same goal — exterminating boss monsters. As for D's crusade against Ranger force, it doesn't seem like Green cares that much about organisation, as his confrontation with Yumeko shows.

Other that that, I agree, pacing is pushed a bit to far, we basically jump from one narrative development to another, and each of them feels significant enough to be a centerpiece of an entire episode, but here story has no space to breath.

I just have to sigh whenever I watch an episode and see where stuff got cut out. This is what happens when you try cramming 75 chapters into 12 episodes. Nothing has room to breathe or settle, let alone fully land.
