Could be fun, most slice of life anime with a particular hobby/interest that gets put in the spotlight are a good time.

For me, this was an example of not being hugely enthused by the plot summary but getting more interested after watching the trailer. Visuals look great. And one of the leads has a great collection of boulders, heh-heh-heh...

I was appalled...appalled I say...to discover that there's apparently been some controversy over this anime based on the trailer. It seems like a pretty straightforward, non-objectionable, gentle slice of life anime with lots of beautiful scenery in the background to me. The usual anime slatherings of info related to the central subject matter, a young impressionable female learning self-reliance from a knowledgeable, capable female mentor, lots of shots of abundant hills and sloping peaks and swelling abutments backlit by sun sparkling off water...what's there to be offended by?

Seriously, internet. Geez.

I really liked the first episode. I am a sucker for gems/minerals and pretty nature and the show has both in spades. It helps that the show looks way better than I expected it to and the music also helps to create a very calming mood. The bits of information about mineralogy are very welcome and I am looking forward to more. The characters I like, yes, Ruri is a brat but she does learn and pay attention to what is being told. Nagi is less outspoken but is shown to be quite passionate about her craft.

Count me in for more.

The background work is nice, which seems important for the show. Its leaning hard enough into rocks its verging on edutainment- which is not a complaint, its not like my Geology is especially strong.

Ruri is somewhat annoying, but its ameliorated by both quickly getting better and carrying a sense of versimilitude.

Episode 1

I think one of the more important pieces of equipment for Nagi is her Over the Shoulder Boulder Holders. And speaking of Juggs O'Plenty, the friend of Ruri's we saw at the beginning was no slouch in that department, either. This is definitely a show for people who like to get their rocks off. Okay, okay,, I got that out of my system. I like scenery porn and this show looks like it will deliver.

Ruri is almost as self-centered and entitled as camping girl, and almost as annoying. Nagi is a saint of patience putting up with her. I think about the time Ruri accused her of plotting to steal all the gold, I would've just left her on the mountain.

Anyway, I like the show, I just wish Nagi's body proportions were a little more realistic. One can have huge boobs without sacrificing 8 ribs. Besides being way too short-waisted, her upper legs are too long. I think it's bugging me because I don't see how she can breathe with such a cramped torso.

Other than that, the show looks great.

I kept thinking Ruri was going to get her hand stuck in that crevice and we were going to have a dramatic rescue scene.

I like the show. If it was drawn/animated like your standard boiler plate isekai it wouldn't be as appealing since most of the interaction so far consists of a patient adult explaining lots of stuff to a somewhat spoiled child, but the backgrounds are so easy to look at and immersive that it tips the scale from okay to good IMHO. Personally, I think this anime is doing the best work using sunlight effects to make an anime beautiful that I've seen since Blue Box.

Ruri is very much a brat at times but that gives Nagi the opportunity to provide all kinds of interesting information in an organic fashion. It also helps that it is shown that Ruri retains atleast some of what she is taught and thinks about it. Plus, she kept the gold despite previously stating it was all about getting the money. I appreciate that every episode takes a moment to showcase just how long it takes for minerals/rocks to end up as shown, it humbles a person.

@Smurky - Oh, I get that Ruri is very much a work in progress and is gradually coming around, and I've got nothing against the anime's story. The title is Ruri Rocks, not Nagi Rocks or Ruri...umm...Sediments. I'm just saying, for me, the outdoor visuals are what bumps this anime up from an average hobby/club/infomercial type offering.

I agree the show is basically running on background art and edutainment. Fortunately, its doing both of those things excellently.

Ruri... in real life, I would find her annoying, but I don't find her so annoying in the show. Theres a certain verisimilitude to it. Overall, I think its better than the more typical younger participant who would just be peachy-keen on knowing about rocks and be oh so good and oh so bland. It gives more to play off and feels more naturalistic.

Episode 3 was another good one with a new character and a treasure hunt (though the bismut was very pretty too). The latter started off with finding an old map and let to spelunking in a mine (well, falling let to the spelunking). The treasure was once again a very pretty scene and due to the presentation it really felt like a treasure hunt. Ruri does need to be more careful though, entering an abondoned mine is a big no no as is. Imari meanwhile is an interesting addition in that she is far more into the theoretical side of things. It makes for quite the contrast with Nagi and Ruri who jump into any adventure they can with glee.
