People complained about Alear's design so much they went with a kid with Sideshow Bob hair to one up it Laughing Rest of the designs look good though.

Connection to Three Houses, I guess?

That is definitely Cassandra Lee Morris as Sothis there, plus there's all the dragon bone weapons and accessories. Usually Fire Emblem only changes artists if it's a new continuity so...what's going on here?

Even if this is narratively connected to Three Houses, I really hope they change up the gameplay; Three Houses is probably the weakest in the series on that front.

Give it a smooth Job progression like Engage and similar battle feeling, a plot as ambitious as Three House and it would be the perfect.

Really hope this means a return of Byleth M/F but I wouldn't bet on it. Probably Sothis talking to the new protagonist or the player directly. In the former we might be a descendant of byleth or distantly related to Sothis, as for the latter maybe Sothis got so powerful she's now got multiverse hopping and 4th wall breaking powers? Probably not.

Unless they're saving it for later there was no player Avatar which means we might be back to actual characters now. Without the marriage and child system from Awakening and Fates it was kind of pointless anyway.

Engage was a fun time but it was definitely no Three Houses - the game that made me a Fire Emblem fan in the first place. I'm really glad they decided to dial down the goofy "vtuber" designs that was quite prevalent in Engage. The connection to 3H is also a huge pull for me.

Now if only this was playable on the Switch as well... Now I got no choice but to consider getting a Switch 2 for this. I have to wonder why this couldn't be on the original Switch. Is it hardware issues or do they just want to sell more Switch 2s?

spoiler[It's a prequel, considering the appearance of Nabateans (pointy ears) and adult Sothis. Plus, the coliseum area is very reminiscent of Enbarr (which was based on Rome), and Enbarr was the oldest city in Fódlan]

All I'll say is that after that disaster from the previous game (I HATED it), this felt like coming homen.

There's no real connection between avatars and marriage/children; the former was introduced in a game that lacked the latter and the latter was first used long before avatars were a thing.

Engage is a far better game than 3H. It was a step down in terms of story, but 3H's story the only good thing about it compared to the rest of the series, so that's not really much of a mark against it.

As for why it's only on Switch 2, I'd imagine it has to do with something not obvious in the trailer, but it could indeed just be to incentivize series fans to buy the console.

I wonder. From the way they presented the game, it seems like the game might be split between the coliseum story in the “present” and flashback sequences to the “past” for the major characters involved, which might tgive them some wiggle-room to (re)incorporate 3H-style social mechanics. Though how that might work with character progression, I’ve no idea.

Think they just wanted it to be on Switch 2

Switch one had 3 Fire Emblem games as it was.

The prequel theory falls apart a little because there's no way spoiler[Adult Sothis] can be around at the same time as Heroes' Relics, which one of the characters is confirmed to have

All the Relics seem to be different than the ones used in Three Houses. So it's possible they came from a different source.

People keep forgetting that the relics don't need to be made from spoiler[Sothis's remains. Nemesis & the 10 Elites all use copies of the Relics in Verdant Wind's final boss fight, suggesting they don't require entrails to be made. Especially since old Agartha was far more advanced than the one in the present timeline of Three Houses.]

I was gonna make a joke about this game, but I've learned the hard way never to mock anybody's weave.

How could spoiler[Sothis have been an adult after she was killed? Just because she fused with Byleth doesn't mean that she was alive. This has to be the past, because otherwise, nothing else explains Nabatean kings, what seems to might have been an Agarthan and what might have been a Hero's Relic could've been made by one of the Four Saints, seeing as one of them was the one that forged some of the sacred weapons, such as Moralta and Begalta.]
