Episode 1

Let's see, a mopey teenager befriends an amiable monster... ah, this must be season 2 of The Summer Hikaru Died! I kid, I kid, but the parallels are there. I would say that Hinako has way more justification for being downcast compared with Mopey Moperson of the other show given that her entire family was obviously killed in some way, plus I just have more patience with mopey chicks than I do with mopey dudes, so I'm probably not going to run into the same problem of loathing one of the leads of this show. I can't see the first episode set my world on fire, but I interested to see more.

Beyond 'befriending' a monster, they both seem to be using pretty heavy allegory of being gay/lesbian. And before you say that I am looking too hard Blood-, just look at all the lilies in the song, which has pretty much no other explanation that this is a second show that wants to make some sort of a connection of oddly attracted to a monster to being homosexual.

Also, I kind of feel like calling that her other friend is also a monster. Just for there to be an entire point to her cough or something.

I don't think there's any doubt about it being a yuri show. "Monster feeding = sex allegory" is pretty typical in a lot of this kind of fiction.

Ep 2

Well, this show gets an A for Atmosphere, at least. I thought it was used well, even if Hinako was spacing out about being underwater in almost every other scene.

Waiting to see how the conflict between the yokai and the girlfriend - named Miko(?), I guess that's a different word than the one for priestess - anyway, how that develops.

Good show so far, and nicely different.

Dropped. I'm just not in the mood for shows that aren't fun for me. I was trying to imagine Hinako and the dude from The Summer That Hikaru Died (the black haired one, not the monster) as a couple and just about killed myself on the spot.

I am perfectly happy with media thats miserabilist.

Unfortunately, this show has committed the far greater sin of being dull and predictable (so far) which is not what I expect from a show with this title.
