I hope that the torture is the funny/goofy kind and not of the gritty and realistic type.

Yah, it's a fresh concept, and I'm okay with dark humor, but this could go sideways really, really easily.

Preach it, bruh. Definitely do not want this to get the Orb: movement of the Earth style treatment.

I think that they nailed the vibe I was hoping for. On one hand you have 4 likeable (yet deeply disturbed) individuals who are delivering in the slice of life department by having fun together plus supporting eachother. That includes the whole torture thing being very normal with shops specialized in the needed tools and the line of work being seen as contributing to society. On the other hand we have the torture itself which is thankfully not overly gritty but still disturbing enough that there is weird mix of comfy yet bloody (plus plenty of dark humor).

I thought it was okay, but I didn't hit the pause button on my remote when I got up to go heat some stir fry from the fridge, and that's not a good sign.

I think this would have to be Gran Blue Dreaming funny for me to really invest in it given the creep factor, and instead, it's an interesting experiment where an anime with the laid back vibes of a day to day workplace comedy is grafted to a dark vocation. The thing about interesting experiments is that you can often take them or leave them without any particularly strong emotional investment, and the reason I watch slice of life is diametrically opposed to this kind of slice of life if you see what I mean.

Just for the record, I thought that anime about a children's show host who is a depressive negative energy suckwad was an interesting experiment in contrasts too, and I didn't really invest in it either.

If I was bored and anime hapless on this particular day I might try to give this another shot, but I've already got two anime of interest on Sunday, and next Sunday Hell's Paradise and You and I Are Polar Opposites will be roaring around the turn at speed. I'm not ruling out Kaya Chan's Not Scary or In the Moonlit Dusk either, though I will say I consider all the other Sunday anime personal long shots.

The humour in this was pretty mid for me. Also, if it remains just a 4-koma style gag comedy, I don't see me hanging around too long. The comedic premise will start to wear real thin pretty fast. I'll give it some more rope (heh) but I wanna see some story-telling or I'm Audi. Plus, despite all the posturing about how their victims are horrible people, I still find the concept of torture off-putting.

The second episode has me questioning if I will stick with the show for long. The novelty of the torture premise has already worn out and thus I come to realize that although I like the slice of life segments they are not all that special. It does not help that they can not go two sentences without bringing up torture in some way either.

El droperino. The torture thing was skeeving me out and there wasn't anything humour wise that was making it worthwhile. Pretty full season for me so that made the decision even easier.

The third episode expanded the cast and made it just interesting enough for me to stick around for another week. I do really question signing up for the torturer job though, a surprising number of applicants was shown (though almost all of them were not suited for the job).

I did wonder what the procedure would be for the torture targets once all information has been extracted from them. Looks like they have lost all human rights and are considered product. It raises a nasty question about the setting since it seems that at a certain severity of convicted crime you stop being human in the eyes of the law.

Every episode is a struggle for me because of Mike's constant cat mouth. It's obnoxious that he has it pretty much non-stop. It's a funny expression when used on occasion, but get some plastic surgery to fix it or put some makeup on to look like Joker already. Sheesh.

Kind of an neat twist that Shiu has daughters and the rest of the torture gang is up for helping him take care of them. The overall humor for the series, though, isn't quite over-the-top or unique enough for me to really feel entertained. At this rate, I'd be more interested if they just made this series slice of life with dark humor trying to prove some point about "people need to constructively output their energy, or they'll become torturers."

I have to admit that the cat mouth does not bother me. With episode 5 we did get a lot of slice of life fluff though. The gang are all good friends and the outside work times are the strongest segments because of it. The torture jobs do not interest me all that much yet it being so accepted in society and even having courses about it is unique.

I did not expect to see any romance in the show. A relationship between a torturer and contract killer does not sound bad since they can somewhat relate to the profession of the other and not be weirded out. Sero was 100% honest in saying that his work will always come first, Monika said the same thing but changed her mind later on.

Even cat-mouth-Mike got hit on by a fangirl, who also happens to be the cleaner. I find the random slice of life moments more interesting than the attempts of making the torture work itself turn into dark humor. I guess it's trying to go for a quirky kind of irony that shows people in such a dreary business can still maintain normal-ish lives? I would say the last couple of episodes have slightly swayed my opinion towards a more positive direction. Still not a great show, but I applaud some of the effort.
