Rooster Fighter (TV) Source: Manga (ongoing @ 11 volumes by Shū Sakuratani) Demographic: Animation Studio: Sanzigen Genres: action, comedy, supernatural Themes: absurdity, chickens, demons, fighting, gore, parody, revenge Plot Summary: In a world where terrifying monsters walk the earth, one heroic rooster is destined for greatness. When giant demons threaten the innocent, he’s going to show them who’s boss. The neighborhood cock of the walk is more than just an ordinary rooster—he’s humanity’s greatest defender. His opponents may be ten stories tall, but nothing is bigger than his stout heart and his fearsome battle cry—cock-a-doodle-doo. Air Date & Platform: March 15, 2026 (Sunday) Available on: Hulu Episode Count / Runtime: 12 episodes Trailer ---------------------------------- Not sure if I should include this as a late Winter or early Spring title. Let me know what y'all think. Also, cool to see Kenta Miyake playing the main character. Love him as All-Might, and now he's a badass chicken. Personally, I'd count this as a Spring 2026 show. And it looks hilarious.

Agreed, early spring 2026 show it is. I might wait a few weeks until watching though, starting a new show while the current season is ending feels.... wrong

Yeah, I like the coincidental idea of "Spring Chickens." I will add this to the Spring 2026 Schedule whenever we start building it out.

Episode 1
Ha ha, awesome! It's every bit as ridiculous yet strangely cool as you would expect. I wonder if Kenta Miyake does all the voice work for Keiji? I ask because he has such a deep voice but when he has to make chicken sounds, it's quite high pitched. If he's doing it all, I'm pretty impressed. |

I have to say, the idea seems a lot more feasible after recent events in Tojima Wants to Be a Kamen Rider.

Ha ha, I had completely forgotten about that Rooster! The two characters are absolutely brothers from another mother.

1–2:
How I let this show slip by is beyond me. Honestly, there aren't many shows that interest me for Spring 2026 so it will be a quiet season for me. Rooster Fighter will be that one go-to to keep me entertained. It's definitely not the kind of show I will take seriously—it's not that kind of show, anyway—but that's exactly the kind of show I like after an otherwise stacked Winter 2026. It's obvious this show is a parody of classic action genres of the past, and is intentionally full of tropes. But I must admit: I can't think of a single anime that it parodies. I know what I'm watching, yet I cannot name any show that it is parodying, even when I know it's a parody. Can anyone share some examples of this genre? It's annoying that I can't name any. And yes, I also find it funny that every time Keiji speaks, All Might comes to mind. Not a fan of the CGI animation overload, but eh, whatever. First show on my plate for Spring 2026. Because sure, why not? |

I was planning to watch later on but hearing about how stupid it is (in a good way) made me jump in. Seeing Keiji travel around beating demons with his Kamehameha like shout while making allies (and enemies) seems like a fun time. I like that Keiji is hardboiled and has a tragic past (hearing a chicken shout oni-chan is something else).
Piyoko seems a bit annoying but she is no quitter. The way people turn into demons reminds me of OPM. @AC x S I think it takes influence from Dragon Ball and Attack on Titan. Also Fist of the North Star. |

No, they don't feel right thematically although Fist of the North Star is a close one. It definitely belongs to an earlier era, alongside the likes of Fist of the North Star, Golgo 13, and Lupin. I can see the parallel with Dragon Ball because of the Kamehameha reference. I am still checking out which other anime it is parodying. |

I would definitely say Attack on Titan is, at least, a minor reference. The epilogue of Episode 01 had Piyoko swinging on OMD-like gear and jamming a sword-taser-like object into the nape of the demon, who all look like Titans/kaiju.
The sex jokes caught me by pleasant surprise. It's racy if we see humans attempting to do it. But if it's talking chickens, everything's A-okay (and hilariously accurate). Great detail on the close-up shots, too. I do wonder what other shounen tropes we might see. But so far, a pretty fun start and, hopefully, even more potential for absurdity than the premise already indicated. |

I just watched a Hot Springs episode. With chickens. Guess there's a first time for everything. At least seeing All Might panicking over a shallow hot spring bath was fun. |

I love Elizabeth! Her seiyuu, Mariko Honda, is doing a great job. The visual of her taking a bath while sipping a glass of wine cracked me up. This show is pure amazeballs.

I am surprised in that the story is interesting. I expected something similar to Nyaight of the Living Cat with the focus being on the chicken gimmick and the rest not really mattering. Instead we have a revenge story, chickens teaming up to rid the world of demons, unlocking special abilties, demons evolving and even some romance.
