I swear these are the same pieces of art they showed before. I'd just like to see some actual screenshots or animation from the show so I can tell if it's truly as manga-accurate as the concept art bills it as. The designs look perfect but I want to see the end result.

I'm probably late to the discussion on this new show, but does anyone know what the purpose is of making The One Piece? Is it to create a version of the show that isn't too long for people to buy on home video, or at least isn't too long for them to start streaming online? (Since most people are very intimidated by the thought of starting to watch a show that has over 1,000 episodes and isn't even finished.) Is it to provide replacements for the original arcs that have not stood up in terms of video quality because they were produced in a 4:3 480p era?
It sounds like they're being cagey about how many arcs they're going to adapt with this new production, which I don't understand because they surely have some purpose in mind for starting the production and thus have an end goal in mind.

I never needed a second adaptation but boy is this giving me "This is going to end up like Uzumaki" vibes. I get time is needed for animators to work and not having them die of overwork is important but this gives me "We are stalling for time and only animating near the release date instead of taking advantage of our lead time" vibes.

Not a great deal of One Piece is on Netflix, and Funimation hold the licence, so Netflix are just sublicensing it. This acts as a follow-up to that to help keep user retention.

I think an Uzumaki situation would be maybe too drastic for such a huge brand, but in any case, it always struck me as very weird how Wit "we can't keep up with our schedules" Studio was chosen for this massive job.

I don’t think this will be anywhere close to being as poorly done as Uzumaki was especially in animation.

A lot of people, especially younger people, refuse to touch any piece of media older than a few years so the idea of someone, especially people who only got introduced to the series through the live-action version, going back to watch the older anime that is cel-animated and not in widescreen is a pipedream and something a lot of people probably have no desire to do even disregarding the length of the series. The anime definitely isn't perfect and could be improved upon but overall I do kind of think this isn't really necessay at least until you get to part of the anime where they're only adapting .5 chapters per episode and it becomes a slog. The current seasonal anime only does 1 chapter per episode and it's still kind of slow. At it's best the anime used to adaption like 2.5 chapters per episode which was nice so hopefully this version can smoothly do 2-3 chapters an episode. Not too fast, but not a snails crawl like later bits of the current anime

If this is that murmurings I saw about his skin color he was always pale and it's just the original Toei anime that gave him a different skin color like Robin and some other characters who deviated from Oda's original manga coloring that didn't get fixed until the time-skip. And then the live-action came out and made him and other characters outright black and just gave people even more misconceptions about the characters looks. This design for Usopp is how Oda always intended him to look as we see with the flashback to Little Garden in the latest episode of the anime using this design more or less.
