i remember receiving an email about pictonico, and my first immediate thought was, "oh, so it's like pictionary? is this like, nintendo's version of pictionary?" i'm glad i was proven wrong because it actually looks kinda fun.
for some reason, to me, it immediately gave me vibes of like...photo booth from the iphone/ipad days or maybe some of nintendo's 3ds stuff like face raiders and photos with mario, it feels like a very nintendo thing to do.

Funny you mention Zenless Zone Zero, because that game having a disappointing Season 2 was the reason I tried out NTE to begin with. And for the most part, it's basically everything I wanted from ZZZ's Season 1 that I started losing in Season 2 going into Season 3.
ZZZ's highlight is its combat, it's easy to learn but hard to master. But ZZZ's combat is also stuck in a rut of not doing interesting things with it. Shiyu Defense is a slog to complete now, we get a new interesting boss that's actually fun to fight every 3 other bosses while the others are either boring or downright miserable. And outside of combat, the game is basically NOTHING.
NTE makes traveling normally a fun experience. I could spend all day just Ubering people from one place to another. It's cool to interact with the playable characters and see them out in the wild not tied to any quests, and you can even if you don't own them. It makes me want to fast-travel less, and I consider that a sign of a good world.
That said, both game's endgames are terrible, it's just 'more high-level combat alleviated by whaling'. Because of that, I'm still hoping ANANTA comes out, because it's like NTE except the character designs are all good and the endgame is fashion.

NTE turned out better than I thought, but I probably won't stick with it. I think the anomalies are interesting, especially when they err on the creepier side, but while I think the combat isn't bad, it doesn't feel as good as ZZZ.
I haven't played through the entire main story, but the romance story really should have been a side-story (though they "attack" in the crossing was fun), and the shop where they sell wishes for a price should have been a main story.
Running around the city and finding things like anomalies to engage with has been fun, but the city tasks (that have their own stamina) are (overall) not that fun.
Not having a 50/50 is great, but it seems like the amount of pulls earned in the next patch is only about half of what you might expect compared to a hoyo game with a 50/50. So that seems worse if you're F2P or a light spender that still mostly relies on that for most of your pulls. At least with the 50/50 you have a chance to come out ahead, even if it makes it harder to plan and can be upsetting when you lose.
In a vacuum, I think this game could do very well (even better if it was a single player game...), but I'd be hard pressed to think of a good reason to drop another game that I'm already enjoying for this.
