I don't get grading culture and sticking things in plastic cases especially if it's something meant to be read/played.

I was in a small games store and I saw Skyward Sword on the Switch for over 100$ because it was graded and in a case. I could get a brand new copy for under 50$ over in the games section. I don’t see how you can get better quality than brand new so I then concluded grading must be a scam. I’ve stuck to this belief and not been proven wrong yet.

It's 1000% only about money, nothing else.
I wonder how long before Logan makes the manga a NFT and asks a couple of idiots to "buy in" so they can rug pull and never pay them back, again.

These "first appearance of X" copies of Shonen Jump and the like were already rising in price over the last couple of years anyway, but this guy is going to turbocharge that. He is a parasite for any collecting hobby.
As much as I love the Pokémon TCG, guys like him make me glad I got out of collecting it about 20 years ago.

It comes down to treating these things as an investment, not as a thing to be enjoyed. Presumably, the final, final buyer will be someone who is a big enjoyer of said thing, and therefore willing to pay a lot to have a display piece of that thing they enjoy. Scalpers buy stuff to resell. Some are maybe holding for longer if the purchase was already expensive.
Here, Paul does things for attention, therefore, he bought these for attention, and clearly received that attention. I doubt if One Piece, Dragonball, or anything else he spends so much money on matters to him beyond the attention he gets for it.
Personally, that is the distinction I make. There are collectors, and they collect things for their own enjoyment. Then there are the others who buy stuff like this to resell or to get attention, or both.

This isn't even new, during the 80's and 90's people were also buying up comic books and wrapping them up in plastic, never opening them in hopes that they would eventually sell for a fortune (they just forgot that none of the stuff they were speculating over was actually rare), and then the comic market crashed in the 90's and a ton of stores went under and nobody made a dime.

Yeah, it's ultimately just speculating, and not anything new; something like it happened even before comics with sports cards.
(And there were at least some comics in the 80s and 90s that did legitimately skyrocket in value - and thus warrant the sleeving - especially for rare alternate covers, but IIRC some of the highest print volumes ever for key comics also happened towards the end of that period.)

Like, he really only buys these things because he knows it'll get him clicks and have articles made about him like this one.

Logan Paul is a total loser, I don't even think he really cares about anime or even the culture he just he just wants the recognition for throwing his money around, like ever living douchebag that he is lol no body should give this loser any attention cause that all he craves him and his loser brother who can only fight old boxers

So now he’s gonna enshittify manga buying by enticing even more neckbeard finance bros to consider books a “long term financial investment”

To be fair anime/manga is no real stranger to this. I remember for the longest time the ADV Platinum Collection for NGE was stupidly expensive along with the Dragonbox releases for Dragonball Z. Maybe they still are, but manga also goes OOP and raises in price so from one angle I can understand the concept of hoarding and selling high-demand items for astronomical prices on the aftermarket. It happens with anime figures all the time as well

The One Piece and Dragon Ball manga are in no danger of going out of print.
