Trigger is being given a blank check to go as nuts as they want and I am here for it.

There are probably more than one protagonist.

The kid is clearly the viewpoint character (and likely doomed) but not necessarily the MAIN character.

I love how the game is completely inconsequential to the anime and the anime is just Trigger's backdoor into doing a random cyberpunk techno futury series. The first one was great and much more enjoyable than playing the game ever was so I expect great things from this one.

Cyberpunk is a tabletop setting. Ultimately while heroes, villains and even legends come and go, Night City endures. That makes it incredibly malleable for storytelling.

Yeah, I was going to mention that Cyberpunk is a Tabletop RPG from the late 80's. Reading the rulebooks and learning about the setting is as entertaining as reading a novel. I never played a Tabletop RPG, but just reading about their worlds is fascinating. Also check Shadowrun books.
Also, for those who don't know, there's a RPG for Bubblegum Crisis.
(There's a good chance many don't know what a Bubblegum Crisis is, but OK).
