I was actually getting quite interested in seeing who else had seen Midori Days and what they thought about it. Since Tony gave the go ahead I'll make the new thread myself. I'll copy Frentymons posts since I think it was a very good one and we'll see how it goes.

Only two animes have bought me to tears from laughing so hard- This and Fumoffu. So absolultely hilarious. Better still, they really could've ran with that "right hand girlfriend" deal. the jokes write themselves. But they didn't. Kudos to them for that. Then of course it was warm, touching, etc.

I haven't seen the anime, but the manga is one of only about four or five titles I've given a "MASTERPIECE" rating to; it's not totally original, but it's perfect. I haven't seen the VIZ Media manga but I doubt even with their history of gross incompetence, I doubt they could damage the sheer magic of the manga.
Has the anime been licensed? How does it differ from the manga? Is it just as funny? |

Midori Days is one of those animes I can watch over and over again and not tire of.
While I enjoy the story, the characters are what I like the most. Seiji spoiler[is so much more than the typical anime delinquent who only likes to fight. To me, he seems more like a typical high school student who wants to be liked, to be loved, but whose uncanny fighting ability gets in the way of that. It scares off the other students, especially the girls, and it makes him a target for other gangs who want a piece of him, leading to more fights.] Midori spoiler[is interesting to me because her personality is almost completely opposite as as Seiji's right hand than in "real" life. Normally, she's shy and unable to express her feelings to Seiji, but as his right hand, she's energetic (almost hyper) and constantly confessing her love. However, even in "real" life, I get the feeling some of that energy shines through once she gets to know you and opens up.] I agree with frentymon that the side characters are all nicely developed and have interesting stories. But, I'm going to have to disagree with frentymon in one area. I liked the ending. To me, spoiler[it showed how much Midori grew through the series. Even though her memories of her time with Seiji were gone and she seemed to be back to the same shy girl who was unable to express herself at the beginning of the series, she found the courage to confess her love to Seiji. She risked rejection and didn't know how Seiji would answer, but was rewarded by his confession of love, too. ] Just my thoughts -Murph |

I think the ending really worked actually.
spoiler[ By having her forget her memories it's all up to Seiji to make things work now. She might remember what happened but he does. He could've decided to not stick with her and once she awoke bug out. By having her not remember it's up to Mr. Tough guy to put it all on the line this time. She poured her heart into it the first time, now it's his turn. Besides, imagine the fun of having to explain to a girl you love her because she was transformed into your right hand and you too grew on each other???? See how well that goes.] |

Liked it a lot despite it's strangeness. It was funny and even at times dramatic. It also was very well animated. It's a worthy addition to my shelves of anime.

Ye gods, the same old story, is it? I've heard VIZ Media's top translators got shackled to the nigh impossible job of localizing Detective Conan, but the comapany's size and devotion to cutting cost resulted in hiring a lot of newbies that lead to the problems you cited. The same happened with TOKYOPOP, of course, but then again TKP wasn't originally known for quality anyway. My sister's Sailor Moon graphic novels by MIXX are so badly bound they can't be open anymore without destroying the volume. |

That would be Takamizawa's reason Really, I don't know if my reasons for liking this series are any different than a girl's. First of all, it makes me laugh. Very hard. But even with the comedy, the series doesn't lose its dramatic edge. I think a good example of this is the spoiler[convention episode, where Takamizawa has Seiji and Midori help sell the Midori puppets. While being very funny, this episode also shows how much Seiji and Midori have come to care for each other.] Secondly, even though the premise of the series is so outlandish, I find the characters' reactions to it very believable. spoiler[Seiji is freaked out at first but grows more and more accustomed to it as the days pass. Midori finds herself in a situation where Seiji can't get away from her, so she's free to confess her love, embroider those shirts and do all those other things because there's not much Seiji can do about it. However, as the series progresses Midori realizes what an impractical solution being Seiji's right hand is and wishes the situation to return to normal.] The only area where guys might like the series better than girls is the fanservice. But while it added to the comedy, I think the series would be just as enjoyable to me without it. Again, just my thoughts. -Murph Edit: Somehow, namelissis' post that I was responding to was deleted. |

Despite a couple of really weak episodes (6 and 7, IIRC), the series as a whole worked for me, and I loved the ending. So few anime romantic comedies know how to end right, but this is one that does. Great English VA work in the lead roles and funny alternate dialogue outtakes don't hurt.
For a more complete opinion, see here (for vol. 1) and here (for vol. 2) and here (for vol. 3). |

The first time I heard about Midori Days was my friend telling me about it. Unfourtunately all she seemed to know was that 'The guy's hand wants to be his girlfriend.' and was trying to convince me that it was some sort or sick, twisted show.
Thank God I know better now, it is one of the sweetest animes I've seen to date and I'm sure that if my friend ever dares to go near it (I'm trying to get her to watch it.) that she'll agree with me. |

I really liked Midori Days because it was funny, had a unique plot (well, a unique twist, anyway), and provided lots of character development. AND it's one of the instances where the sub and the dub are both done very well. It still makes me laugh to think about Seiji's friend Miyahara, working the buttons on a crane game, saying "It takes a veeeerrry steady hand!" -- yay for old Operation references! In the dub, at least. The outtakes were funny too; you gotta love hearing Midori-chan's cute voice...swearing like a sailor.

I saw this series only just last week, & aside from the obvious lewd jokes about a boy & his right hand, I found this series to be incredibly heartwarming & hilariously funny. Seiji came across as an extremely likeable character despite his 'Mad Dog' tough guy persona, & Midori's affection for him was both funny & touching, especially when Seiji was lamenting the fact that he couldn't get a girlfriend & Midori spoiler[realising that Seiji would only ever see her as his right hand if things stayed the way they were.] The dynamic between the two characters was very well played out IMO, & made for a very enjoyable little series.
