I'm totally fascinated with the manga with art by Takeshi Obata, and the trifecta of manga centered around playing either a board game, which is not in itself supernatural, writing down people's first and last names in a notebook, or sitting behind a desk making manga.
I don't know when exactly he's gonna be done with Bakuman (I'm only on Volume 5 and there are at least 13 volumes in Japan) What other idea is he gonna be presented with next? Will it be another collaboration with a story-writer? Even if you don't literally know what's next, do you also notice a pattern with his works and hope for something more? In the live-action movie business, that movie The Social Network is a current popular example of mundane business stuff being presented with dramatic camera angles and witty dialogue. It would be interesting if Obata forced himself to sit down and draw a nearly shot by shot retelling of that movie in his manga art, since he's so good at drawing white people in his style, maybe with appropriate blue, you know that kind of blue, colorization on certain pages. It would take like, 400 pages or so to complete it all I think. |

I haven't seen the movie, but the idea makes me curious. Since Obata usually works along side another writer, did you have any idea who would do the writing? I would have to assume he would do so, considering his track record thus far. As of yet, I haven't read Bakuman, but I am genuinely looking forward to it considering how much I enjoyed Hikaru no Go and Death Note. Both of the series would get my vote as modern classics. While he is indeed skilled with the way that he creates people, I would have to say that his unique attention to fashion is often very interesting as well. Notice that the various types of characters in his series can be identified by the type of clothing they wear.
