Chronicles refers to the journey for Sakura's wings that make up her memory (the Tsubasa part). But what the "Reservoir" part? Thanks. I'm watching the first season online before next week's release of volume 1 of season 1 comes out. PS, does Mokona's use of speech in Japanese give any indication to whether it's a boy or girl?

I'm interested in why it's like that too...
Also why is certain parts of Reservoir capitalized. |

I believe the Funimations subs refer to Mokona as a male. I was a bit disappointed that this DVD didn't have a booklet like some of the other Funi titles. I'm also surprised that the English version of the title doesn't have the wing "tsubasa" as part of the title.
I would assume that Sakura is like an empty Reservoir which needs to be filled. Having only seen the first five episodes I could be completely off. I had no idea what this series was about and found all the CLAMP tie-ins very cool. Arashi and Sorata are two of my favorite characters. This parallel dimension concept really helps explain the vastly different X manga, movie and television series. |

I always thought Mokona was a girl. Mokona sure does sound like one in the Japanese dub, and kinda acted like one too. As for the title. The Tsubasa part - remember in episode one where Sakura started to float and wings came out then when Shaoran went to get her, the wings became feathers. I guess that's what it's for. The reservoir part - yep. A reservoir is sort of a large container, so I agree that it might be because Sakura is an empty container that needs to be filled with... Chronicles. Chronicle is defined as a recording of past events, and in the anime's case, the feathers would be the Sakura's chronicles. That's just my interpretation though... |

The jumble of capitals are there because, well, that is what CLAMP does.
As for Mokona, one is male, the other is female. We are told which is which in xxxHOLiC, but I can't remember. I believe that Mokona black is the female. |

You say that's what CLAMP does, but as you can see from their website database, they've never really had much of an alternating text or kana set except for words that were meant to be foreign such as 『カードキャプター』 or 『レイアース』or words in english like 『BABYLON』. One of the items, 『ちょびっツ』 can be considered alternating text because of the katakana ツ at the end. But it did tie into the manga/anime VERY slightly due to spoiler[the password being backwards in having チョビッつ as the password for Chii made by Hideki] So again, I was wondering, why the special 『ツバサ-RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE-』. Also, 『XXXHOLiC』 has a lower case "i" which makes me wonder "why" for that too. They are, afterall, stories that twine themselves together. You could say that it's "vowels only" but that's not true since "r" is lower case as well. But "i" is kept lower case in both titles, but "o" only twice with the "HOLiC" part as an uppercase "O". But you may be right, it just might be intended with nothing at all but how they wanted it As for the reservoir being Sakura and filling her with feathers, I suspected that

i don't think there are any good reason for it. japanese don't want to call series ,first season, second season..... they always add a word or two in the title of the original.
