Okay I am a fan of Season 1 full metal panic. I'm into all that mecha anti-terrorism hype. Some of the main characters really drew me in. Good action, and detailed art that wasnt rushed. And then came along Full Metal Panic Fumoffu.
My question :Is this considered to be season 2? Because if so what the heck happened?
It seems to be a comedy show now with that walking mascot gimmick. Don't get me wrong Im not entirely hating it I just want the raw seriousness back. they had the balance right before now its more like, eh....okay. I'd like to hear opinions to this if you have.
But FMP season one still remains to be one of my favorite series recently.

Good news my fellow FMP fan =) Fumoffu is not season2. It has nothing to do with Gonzo's FMP.
I really hope that there will be a 2nd season of FMP. Its one of the best series out there.
Fumoffu is good but not near as good as the the real FMP.
I've got the Box and volume 1,2,3,4 and 5.
FMP Vol 6 will be out 2004-01-06.
FMP vol7 2004-02-17.

I had read that when FMP was done as an anime there were certain stories in the manga skipped over as they didn't fit with the mood of the anime.
FMP:Fumoffu? was supposed to be the telling of the manga stories skipped by FMP. So technically it takes place during the same time as FMP. Kinda like side stories.

For the many anime fans who do not like mecha because it is hopelessly contrived and unbelievable, I must disagree completely with the assessment the FMP season is much better than Fumoffu. Fumoffu is pure comedy and never pretends to be anything else unlike FMP which is at times seems confused deciding what it wants to be. Looking at Fumoffu as a pure comedy it is the best anime comedy bar none. I have seen about 80% of all comedy anime from 1993 to 2003. Much of comedy is cultural and to find a comedy with this universal of a comedy appeal is very rare especially for anime. If Fumoffu is the collection of side stories from the manga that were left out Gonzo's FMP then how can have nothing to do with FMP? Think people, think. But, I guess that would be asking to much from Macha fans.

First, calling for people to think about what they write before they write it is never uncalled for. Second, ok the comment about mecha fans not being able to think was a bit over the top. It was meant as humor which Fumoffu bashers seem to lack. Explaining their disappoint with lack of rusty machines being blown up and meanless tech talk (this is a glib remark which is be taken which lightly for the humor impared macha fan).

I must be strange then. I liked both series (FMP and Fumoffu) a lot for what they offer:
A fairly silly and well deserved satire of a lot of the more serious mecha series, particularly gundam family of series.
I am glad to hear about a 2nd FMP series aside from Fumoffu. I take Fumoffu as a shot right at those series where ultra uber military types from a foreign land/space try and infiltrate a civilian society and always fit right in, or stand out and look cool doing so. (which Sagara never manages)

(My apologies for reviving a dead topic, but I just felt the need to weigh in on the subject, having finally seen Fumoffu.)
Like Dave M, I must be truly strange, since I absolutely love both series on about equal levels. I wasn't disappointed at all by Fumoffu, because I thought the first series ended well enough, and any legitimate continuation wouldn't have been as good. So instead, we get a series of apparent side-stories that further play on the excellent comedic/romantic relationship between Sousuke & Chidori, and they work extremely well.
Instead of comparing Full Metal Panic! and Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu, I just take each for its own merits. And what I'm left with are one of the best mecha/action-comedy anime of 2002, one of the best comedy anime of 2003, and me absolutely adoring them both.
