The Nichigo timeslot, so named for its airtime of Sunday ("nichi") at 5:00 p.m. ("go"), launched in 2008 with the airing of Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2.

The nightmares still haunt me. Hopefully, if FnL is a TV anime, it'll be late night like the original because I need it to happen.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . I had not realized that the infamous timeslot controversy was the start of nichigo. Wow.

Edit: . . . . what are they going to air on Saturday mornings, though? Kids' shows? Certainly not Lelouch of the Resurrection...

If both Seven Deadly Sins and My Hero Academia air in the time slot starting April, both shows should be safe enough for that slot (given the target demographic to begin with). Plus, this is the same network that aired Eureka Seven at 7AM on... it was either a Saturday or Sunday morning back in the day. So it should be fine.

Sunday night wasn't a 'late night slot'. Plenty of kids shows aired during that primetime. Code Geass at 7am wouldnt be out of place.

Nope, they'll just air at late night like Haikyuu.

Will they still air anime at this time? Getting rid of the name doesnt imply not airing anime I think?

Changing time aside, this is actually a good thing. An extra half-hour for anime! Very Happy

I'd also like to note that Nichigo had a predecessor, douroku, which began in the 90s with Ultraman Tiga and ran through the first season of Gundam 00.

Probably because Gundam began its more mainstream aesthetic appeal with these shows (starting with SEED). We've had Greco air in a late night slot, but I don't know how that affects Gundam going forward.

I'm pretty sure Code Geass season 1 aired in the same time slot Gundam 00 Season 1 aired which was not a late night slot. It was like an hour later than the second seasons.

Build Fighters was a show 100% targeted for kids my question is how dose this effect future AU series that deal with a darker tone.

Season 1 of Code Geass was actually a late night anime.

What I like about Nichigo is that it's pretty much a daytime slot for the kind of anime that airs after midnight, with more violence and sexual content than one can expect from a show that airs in the morning.

That's why I'm worried about the possibility that the next seasons of My Hero Academia and The Seven Deadly Sins will have to tone down the violence, assuming they'll be a part of this new hourlong morning timeslot. Also, I'm afraid any upcoming Gundam shows will have to air after midnight, which means a lot less mainstream exposure for the franchise.
