Just out of curiosity, is anyone reading the official, Viz English version of this? I'm seeing they're published through vol 27, and I guess 30 will be the last...?

I hope this title gets more anime adaptation. It still ranks as one of my favourite romance shows of all time.

Read up to volume 19 or 20 of the Viz english release. I own up until 24 but couldn't stand the mcs anymore so I stopped reading.

Should've ended about twenty volumes ago. The writer's been dragging it out forever now. It took Sawako and Kazehaya like five chapters of angst just to hold hands for the first time.

Agreed, volumes 1 through 6 were a delight, but after that it's been some of the worst "Will they, won't they" shoujo I've ever read. Nearly 9 volumes of them vague saying I like you and the other going "but not like like me right?" in their head.

Don't y'all just hate it when manga does that? Smile

I stopped reading after vol. 19-20 or so. Is everything still the same? It felt that there was nothing else to talk about. That's why I stopped reading.

I really liked the show, but what you're all saying is what kept me from trying the manga. Thirty volumes is pretty long for most series isn't it?

YES!! I've been hoping this series would end soon. I've been loving the series, but I really want to see it end just because I don't really like when a series goes on TOO long. 30+ volumes is kind of the breaking point for me and I usually prefer for a series to be at least half that length.

I've been reading the official version. I've read it through volume 25 so far and recently got 26 and 27 with 28 pre-ordered during the last VIZ sale on Right Stuf. I'll totally be getting caught back up after hearing this news!

I don't really mind the slow pace/lack of developments during a lot of the series. I treat it more as a feel-good slice-of-life in some regards than a typical shoujo romantic drama/comedy.

Skip Beat! has 40 volumes, but yeah. Thirty is still pretty long for a shoujo manga. Laughing

A lot of the plot shifted to the secondary characters and their romantic problems. Unfortunately, one of those plotlines looks like it's going to end with the jackass teacher hooking up with a student.

With Sawako and Kazehaya, the main conflict now is what colleges they'll choose and whether they'll be able to continue as a couple.

I've read up to Vol 27 in the English version. I presume it ends in 30.

It's been a pretty laid back manga.

Pretty much our main duo has been together with only the possibility of separation coming once they decide their post-high school years and college clouding their horizon.

By Vol 27 a decision is finally made by both.

Also the focus was also more on Kazehaya and his relationship with his father and family.

The remainder of the manga up until then has focused on the side characters, their romantic relationships and also their own decisions about their futures and the usual study sessions and cram school stuff. One of whom discovers she has a crush on a teacher.

So sad to hear that opinions are predominantly negative here. Oh well, guess it's not the best place. I still love this series. It's a unique shoujo that actually has a flawed and lovable cast. From the beginning I always thought the 'side characters' had stronger stories to tell so it never got boring after Sawako and Kazehaya got together. Ayane's character is so well-written and her plotline with Pin has been hinted since way back in volume 1, and she went through a lot of realistic emotional maturity to get there. If someone is still thinking about reading this, do, and judge for yourself.

I’m glad! I stopped around volume 10 but checked in from time to time to see how things were going. I agree it’s a series that should not have been so long but I look forward to seeing how it ends.

You are right, some negativity, but not really negative negative, just more "yeah, kinda getting over it, is this ever gonna end...?" sort of thing, which to me isn't all that surprising. I won't lie, I'm a big shoujo fan to begin with, but a lot of my enjoyment comes in the "development" stages....as in, once our main romance is decided, yeah, I start getting less from it, as is the case with this title.

Oh well, I can't say exactly how far I read this (because I put it on hold when the fan scanlations on it started waning, which has been quite a while now) but I'd guess I've read up into the vol 24/25 range, and yeah, I was mostly curious if anyone who was reading the Viz version was having any problems with it/beefs about how they were doing it/able to readily get it/what have you........so yeah, as soon as it's completed and completely available, I'll do what it takes to read it to the end (maybe reread the whole thing, this really was a very good story) Smile
