I do like how the new character designs are both true to the manga while being updated and streamlined for slightly more modern times than 2001.

I agree. The characters look like they were made for a 2018/2019 anime series, but they're still unmistakably the same characters from the manga. They've done a really good job walking the tightrope of being true to the original while feeling current.

VerQuality and Zeino said it well. I too am loving the update to the character designs while still keeping them recognizable.
I am absolutely giddy for this anime! Fruits Basket will always hold such a special place in my heart.

Agreed. A more subdued seiyuu makes more sense. I really like Satou Satomi, but she is more known for her story old grandma voice than anything.

There's no way this show can be too far off from airing with cast announcements being made already. I wonder why they're continuing to do a vague "2019" date.
