Whoof, I don’t know about this one, chief. My friends and I rolled Date A Live during a recent Crunchyroulette session (hitting Crunchyroll’s random button and watching the first episode of whatever comes up, no matter how bad) and it was unmitigated, stomach-turningly unpleasant, painfully unfunny suffering. A real Crunchyroulette hall of famer. Maybe it improves from there but given that the anime decided that the best foot it had to put forward was approximately eight billion consecutive panty shots of the protagonist’s little sister in the very first scene...I have doubts.

One of those "The LN is better". Cases in my opinion, tho Season 1 was actually really enjoybale.

I watched all of the first two seasons and at least part of the third (at least up to the point where spoiler[Origami becomes a Spirit], though I don't remember if I ever finished the season) and never found anything to be exceptional or memorable about the franchise, beyond maybe Kurumi. While I can see how this could be popular, I wouldn't rate this franchise above "middle of the pack" even as harem titles go. It wasn't entirely unfunny (the running joke about Kotori's masochistic second-in-command was always good for a laugh), but the humor had more misses than hits for me, and the series didn't manage its more serious parts well. The production value collapse in the third season also didn't help.

I'll probably at least check out the fourth season when it hits, but can't see myself getting into the novels.

I have a genuine love for this franchise at least on the anime side of things. Though, I keep putting off getting into the games but I'll get to them eventually just like the novels. I would say my favorite heroines are the twins Yuzuru and Kaguya. I think they have the best synergy with the rest of the cast.

Yeah I've tried a few times with this series and I just found it really shallow. The humor too just didn't do it for me either. It's a series that I really did want to enjoy but just couldn't. I find High School DxD much better, including the light novels.

"These Spirits are wreaking havoc so to stop them, lets have this dude date them." It's so dumb and the novelty of that premise makes Date A Live somewhat enjoyable... for a time. Once the novelty wears off, it becomes a pretty meh viewing experience. The first 2 season's were okayish. The 3rd season had terrible pacing and those dating/harem hijinks had worn off their welcome by that point.

I remember wanting to like this, initially feeling it as that sort of high school dxd but hitting closer to the modern magical/deadly girlfriend harem shtick thing, but it still took itself too seriously
And that was like a decade ago
It ain't worth it

Don't why so many people are ripping on this series. It is overall a classic anime, and still has a sizeable fanbase today. The plot got better as the story advanced, but you have to see the novels for a sneak peek. Hopefully it gets a full adaptation to volume 22, but not sure if it can ever get greenlit for a season 5 considering the source material ended and the spin off is reported to be ending.

meh, this series has consistently gone down hill after Season 1. All the concurrent seasons never really do much to address some of the bigger questions of the first season. Season 3 was pretty dismal for lack of a better term. At this point I don't care about Season 4 or any light novels.

I'm a big fan of the franchise and can't wait for season 4! I'm hoping Date a Bullet gets licensed as well as the movie, and really glad the Light Novels are being officially released by Yen Press.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the music. The music for this series is spectacular at the very least. Personally, I find myself listening to the ost at least once a week while I'm browsing the internet or doing other work. The characterization of the girls was decent enough with a few standouts, and while not always funny the comedy moments that do make me laugh are memorable, oragami's worst date comes to mind, and well executed. I might read the light novels in the near future.

Kurumi is the main reason I enjoyed this series. But the last season of the anime really did nothing for me. Unlikely I'll keep watching.

But, I was going to get the LNs when they were announced. Then I found out how it all ends...and it's a no from me.

Still, I'll always remember Kurumi (in large part because her nendoroid is part of my collection) Laughing

AFAICT most fans are in it for the girls; today is the first time I see someone praising DAL for its comedy. As for myself Kurumi was the biggest source of entertainment I got out of the story. I rarely find "comedy" anime funny (shows like Cromartie and Saiki K are the rare few anime that can tickle my funny bone), but I sure love tsunako's designs. IIRC she stated that she'll be collaborating with Tachibana Koushi on a future work, so there might be a sequel or something down the road.
