Maybe it's because I managed to get pretty attached to both Ikki and Agito, but I thoroughly enjoyed this volume just as much I had the last seven. Just watching them infuse every fight they start with their personal flare and style is enough to keep me pumped and happily going from page to page. It's nothing groundbreaking, of course, but I feel like the combination of the art, the characterization, the general layouts and pacing, and just the execution as a whole are consistently excellent enough to keep me engaged. Much like Tenjoh Tenge, at least as someone who couldn't possibly care less about male oriented fanservice, I personally think the writing is genuinely good enough to be worthwhile even without the T&A.

I admittedly didn't really care for the Onigiri/Gorgon battle though, largely because I don't like Onigiri's character at all, but everything else was pure gold for me.

All that said though, I definitely understand why someone may share those sentiments particularly in the case of this volume. While I'm enjoying the Behemoth arc well enough, I do kind of wish they'd speed it up a bit and move on to the consequences of the match and some more plot related characters and events. The action's great and all, but the story's really the best when it's actually telling its story. Obviously, I wouldn't personally mark this volume as D+ material over all, as I still got a lot of enjoyment out of it, but I feel that this review explained clearly and reasonably enough why someone would feel otherwise. It's nice to see a review that's negative without being inflammatory and regressing into some off topic rant that doesn't even address the actual material so much as the idea they decided it's representing.

And on that note, Borders should be getting in volume 9 any day now. I can't wait Anime smile

Oh my gosh... I'm so far behind on this series. I just read volume 4 the other day, and I have volume 5 on my shelf. Need to scrape together enough money to buy the newer volumes...
