honestly, this show reminded me of zatsu tabi in terms of how chill it really was (that show was also my #1 for my spring 2025) and honestly, i kinda like shows like these...probably my favorite show i'm watching so far. with torture princess season 2 being in second place.

I was expecting this to just be a chill iyashikei series, but was a bit surprised to see the signs of romantic interest with the high schooler (she's in her 20s I presume) and the fanservice down shirt cleavage shot (bathing scenes are so common, that it did not feel out of place in contrast). Hopefully this is just it finding it's direction at the start.

These were the two things that stood out negatively to me. I like the bathing scenes because I feel like they naturally mirror the laundry (clean clothes, clean people) and didn't seem to be too focused on showing sideboob or buttocks.

I'll definitely keep watching but it isn't exceptional in the way that something like Journal with Witch was immediately captivating for me

I don't see any romantic tension between Kinme and Kyu, the high school student. In fact, I think she acts the same way with him as she does with the little girl ("what a cute girl/what a nice boy"), even if Kyu seems to appreciate her beauty..

But the fact that the second episode of 'Wash it all away' involves Kinme explaining cleaning techniques (again) and bathing (twice) makes me think this is not for me. It feels like a tourist campaign for Atami with a human-like mascot (Kinme). She doesn't seem to have any problems other than difficult stains. She is always cute, smiling, well-mannered and perfect. It's an idol show without songs. Not offensive, but not interesting.

I started reading the manga (it is free-ish in Manga UP, after all), but the first chapter was more than enough.

It's less real romantic tension and more that he's a vehicle for fanservice, and so we drift into the sort of voyeuristic encounters that are normally presented as romantic, or at least preludes to romance. Such as this week's breaking into her bedroom and then just hanging out with her in her sexy sleepwear for a bit. And then Kinme's friend just outright brings up the topic of romance as he's leaving the building. It's hard to say its romantic, but it's also hard to argue the show isn't positioning it's pieces that way.

I like myself a nice brain-off CGDCT now and then, the lack of tension and stakes is sorta the point. Kinme's apparently traumatic past looming over things (we get a brief flashback to her with the short of scuffed up appearance that usually means "poor and homeless" this week) is actually fairly unusual, though I don't expect it to intrude too forcefully into the chill vibes and cleaning lessons.

It is all beautifully rendered, and gets an "ok, I guess?" at the 3 episode mark.

Thesarum: right, that was my read on the "new character" as well - it was past Kinme. She was semi-remembering another time she went on the roof, from the past she can't remember...

I was actually pleasantly surprised that this bedroom scene didn't try to play up sexy factor in any way, neither from the viewer's nor from the boy's point of view. No sassy camera angles, no lingering shots, really nothing besides general setup: here's an attractive young woman in her sleeping attire. Overall seem like show tries to find some middle ground between being unapologetically horny for Kinme and keeping general wholesome tone. And except for that unfortunate cleavage shot in ep1 I feel like it mostly does a good job at it.

I've read the manga since the first chapter, and the anime is starting to fall into the same pattern: sweet, likeable characters, enough slow reveal of backstory to keep a little interest going, but falling into a bit of a rut with too much of the same old. There are times I've despaired of ever getting much going on in the manga, and the expectation from there is coloring my perception of the anime.

I'll likely continue to watch the anime, but I'm beginning to skim episodes.

I'm starting to wonder if Kinme is a closet exhibitionist the way she stood so upright in the sky bath where people could possibly see her, as well as changing out of her swimsuit on a public beach (even if it is so early in the morning people are liable not to be there). Though I guess ultimately it's all just an extension of how she just feels this insatiable need to feel "clean." And also obviously the fanservice, but still.

Honestly I'm not sure if they're really going to capitalize on KinmexKyutaro as a ship or do anything with it, but it definitely feels way too explicitly romance coded for them not to do anything with it. I don't mind the age gap because mentally they seem to be about on the same level (probably partially because of Kinme's amnesia and personality quirks). I think they're cute together.

What can't Kinme clean? And why does she have so much cleaning knowledge even she didn't realize she had?

Is this a Japanese thing that people will just send things to a business unsolicited? If not after the first time, you'd think once they items started coming in by the truck load someone would have thought to maybe put up a notice about not sending things in before contacting first.
Then again, it hasn't exactly been shown that Kinme excels anywhere outside of cleaning, internet savvy or not, and the rest involved are children...

Now I'm not saying that there isn't fan service in this show, but calling every bathing scene fan service in it isn't always true. Bathing especially with peers is a huge real part of every day Japanese culture. They show bathing decently tasteful in this show compared to others. So calling the bathing scenes meeting a quota I feel is not true. To not show it would literally delete a part of their culture. That's my take.

If she's losing her recent memories then she really should be seeing a doctor and not something to just be glossed over...
Presumably/hopefully she saw when after her major memory loss, but if she's actively losing her current memories then that could be a serious medical issue

"Weird, especially when she went scuba diving a few episodes ago. You mean to tell me that lightning sends shivers down her spine, but not the very real possibility of getting stung by a jellyfish (and I say this from experience)?"

This is a weird complaint. That's exactly how phobias work. They're not really logical. It's not at all implausible that someone could both be scared of lightning and enjoy scuba diving.

I was hoping we'd get a bit more about the mystery behind her amnesia by now. There's the hint she's been to that tourist brochure place before. And it's possible that her fear of lightning might be from that playing a role in her memory loss. But she seems not really concerned at all with her lost past, even though in the modern age there'd likely be some clues to help (like a missing persons report?).

She seems content where she is, but she also laments not having the same connections to the past that other people do.
