You know we're living in the era of simul-pub where manga can come out in the US the same time it comes out in Japan. And yet, we can't get a simul-pub release for an American comic book/graphic novels to get a Japanese release the same day it comes out in the US like we do for manga. I mean the only exception is the Cyborg 009 comic from Archaia Publishing in 2013 which was able to get a simulpub release in Japan the same time it comes out in the US. Other then Cyborg 009 comic, I've never seen any American comic/graphic novel based on Japanese IPs never get a simulpub release in Japan. I mean there's clear evidence that American comic/graphics novel based on Japanese IPs do sell well in Japan, look at IDW's Godzilla, and IDW's Sonic the Hedgehog comic (the Japanese language for IDW's Sonic the Hedgehog vol.1 comic sold out like crazy in Japan, they had to re-print it due to high demand). If both IDW's Godzilla and Sonic the Hedgehog comic does sell well in Japan, then it should warrant simulpub for any American comic/graphic novels based on Japanese IPs given that Japanese audiences are probably aware of manga getting simulpub release in the US, and I think Mad Cave's Contra comic should qualify for simul-pub release in Japan if given an opportunity. |
