^this. I think many people shafted this show simply because it involved card battles. The story and character buildup in this show is actually very well thought out and I'm happy to see it continuing for at least another three months.

Interesting to see Milky Holmes cast doing a theme when their second season is also premiering the same time.

I can't speak for others but for me I shafted it because my eyes glazed over during the first episode and afterwards could recall next to nothing of what I'd watched afterwards. Does the show improve at all after the first episode?

Well, the first 5 episodes or so are devoted to explaining all the rules of the game...Because apparently for the sake of younger viewers, only one or two new concepts are allowed to be introduced per episode. xD (This didn't actually bother me, which is weird because I never expected to like the show in the first place. But well...I can see how it would get boring.)

Then after that it gets better. And like was said above, the buildup for characterization and plotting is pretty well thought out.

Okay, maybe I'll give it another try...

IMO this anime was quite boring. I watch all kinds of anime and card battle animes are some of my favorite but CFV is pretty dull. There is hardly any character development, the characters are bland and uninteresting, the matches are predictable, they aim for a slice of life story then toss in a random super power around episode 8 and never talk about it again till episode 40, the main antagonist never does anything worth being an antagonist, there was barely any plot, no reason to root for the characters, no reason to hate the opponents and Aichi is a boring main character.

Some people will disagree with me but in comparison to other anime in general it was thoughtlessly put together and deserves a much better story.

This is definitely not true. The only point of the story is the main character wanting to get stronger for another character. Does it mean anything? No. There is no character build up either. The characters only get better when they get new cards. They are able to reach nationals right off the bat and was able to do it again 2 episodes after they lost in nationals the first time. That's not build up at all. Aichi is only getting better is cause he is using the poorly explain power to win.

It's fine to enjoy the show but don't lie about it. I hope they make the story more interesting and gives reasons to care about the characters.

I say it's better than Zexal right now. At least Aichi didn't start off winning every match and losing only 1-4 fights like Yuuma who still sucks at the game but keeps on winning due to his not yet fully expained cheat spirit and asspull cards. And hearing oniisan a few times from Kamui is better than hearing YUUMA! from Kotori every time he takes a hit.

I like CardFight Vanguard. It breaks down into roughly three major arcs. spoiler[In the first arc, Aichi, the lead is learning that he loves Vanguard, and how he gains a bit of confidence, at least when he is playing it. The second arc is about the assembling of Team Q4, and their journey to the national championship -- very much a tournament arc, in fact there are three tournaments, the cardshop, the regional, and the national, one after the other. The third major arc is the current one, in which Aichi turns his back on his friends, and becomes an A-hole.]

I'm really enjoying the current (third major) arc, as I didn't expect this direction, or this twist for the main character.

BTW, Milky Holmes had at least 4 cameos in earlier CFV episodes, so I am not that surprised they are doing the ED for the new season.

Gonna have to side with OtakunX, this is one of the few merchandise based anime I couldn't get into. It's like they said "Let's make one, but actually throw out all the crazy over the top saving the world/killing people with a game stuff and just do a more realistic card game show."

They succeeded, so I guess congratulations, but that's why I love those shows. They're typical action shows with epic save the world plots with a vast cast of characters, only the action is with cards or spinning tops rather than punching and kicking. It has novelty value, but that wasn't enough for me to keep up with it.

Guess you missed the whole thing of Yuuma losing 100 matches in a row before Astral showed up? It was plainly established that Yuuma was a bad player before hand cause his family didn't want him dueling (obviously that didn't go very far). Aichi doesn't lose that many matches, he is shown to be a good player right off the bat, so I have no idea why you believe that he didn't start winning right off the bat. Also in the case of Astral, at least he is more explained then Aichi's power that has had no discussion whatsoever. Lastly, there was a huge point in the Zexal story, not going into spoilers, where Yuuma realizes that he needs to get better and I found that scene quite gripping which is something I have never gotten from CFV.

Zexal is by far a better show for many reasons but I will agree the Yuuma is annoying at the start of the series but he is gradually getting better and becoming more interesting to watch. Aichi annoys me just as much and he only got worse with his super power that turned him into a jerk. Hopefully they will fix this fail train in the next season.
