Last Sailor Moon Crystal Episode Ends With 'À bientôt' Message, Toei Plans Announcements (Updated)

posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins

The 26th and final episode of Toei Animation's Sailor Moon Crystal online anime series ended with the message "À bientôt" (See you soon) on Saturday.

The official Twitter account for the 20th anniversary of Sailor Moon thanked fans for watching the online stream of the series, and asked fans to stay tuned to the 20th anniversary project website for the latest news. The staff posted an image that stated, "Regarding future developments, we plan to post sequential announcements on the Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon 20th Anniversary Project's official website! Please look forward to it!!"

The Twitter account added that the television broadcast of the second season (the Black Moon arc) is still continuing.

Toei Animation Europe had posted a news article in April that said, "A second season is currently under production in Japan where the broadcast will start this summer." Toei Europe did not say if the "second season" it was referring to is the television broadcast of the second 13 episodes of the original series (which just ended its online stream) or a brand new season. Toei did not respond to ANN's requests for clarification at that time.

Sailor Moon Crystal premiered online in July 2014, and the television broadcast in Japan began in April 2015. The series is streaming on Niconico, Crunchyroll, Hulu, and Neon Alley.

Update: Toei Animation has now confirmed with ANN that the "second season" Toei Europe mentioned in April is the television broadcast of the second half of the original series (the Black Moon arc), which premiered on TV in Japan this month. Thanks, Anime Herald.
