Trivia:

Throughout the series, the characters use terms and items that haven't been created yet, including a pocket calculator and television sets. The TVs are primarily used as flashback devices to bring characters up to date on events they missed. Additionally, backgrounds in the series show shops with signs advertising electronics, specifically TVs and DVDs.

In Episode 12, Shunpei goes to O-Ise during his journey to ask for help, and he calls her "Nii-san," and O-Ise responds with a "What?" in a much lower voice than her usual. This refers to Full Metal Alchemist, where the two voice actresses played brothers. The director, whose voice can be heard in the background of this scene, was also their director for FMA.

In episode 15, the characters are studying a chronology chart, and the month of November 1843 --still in their future--is covered over. Shunpei remarks that he knows something big will happen then because he's "seen it in other anime", and he's told that's a bad omen. This is probably a reference to the 2006 series "Tenpou Ibun Ayakashi Ayashi", canceled after only 25 episodes, which was set in the same era as "Edo Rocket" ; the final episodes of "Ayakashi" were set during November 1843. Both "Ayakashi" and "Edo Rocket" have the same head scriptwriter, Shou Aikawa.

There's a little "Death Note" joke in episode 18: one of the posts in Kin-san's blog reads "Shinigami only eats apples."
