Trivia:

The original draft of the Nextworld manga was more than twice the length of the final version. The cuts were made by Tezuka's editor without his knowledge or consent, and he was very dissatisfied with the results, which left many elements of the story disconnected. Much of the missing content related to Rock's development from boy to soldier, and to the many roommates of Kenichi and Shunsaku Ban.

This manga story was later adapted into the Fumoon TV special.

Rock's part here, along with his part in Phoenix vol 2 'Future', supplied much of the basis of his character in the recent Metropolis movie - Rock did not appear in the original Metropolis manga. His relationship with Duke Red in particular originates here.

This work is the last book that Tezuka Osamu wrote for his publisher in Osaka, and the last book of a series of science fiction works that he wrote in the earlier stages of his career, following "Lost World" (1948) and "Metropolis" (1949).
