Curry Restaurant's New Gundam Collaboration Focuses on Char's Rise as 'Red Comet'

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

The Curry House CoCo Ichibanya (CoCoICHI) restaurant chain held a collaborative campaign with the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise, offering exclusive merchandise last summer. Now, the chain is suiting up for a collaboration with "Tanjō Akai Suisei" (Rise of the Red Comet), the sixth episode of the Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin anime and the last in the anime's "Loum Arc."

The campaign will run from April 17 to May 31. Guests can use their receipts that have a total of at least 900 yen (about US$8) to enter for a chance to win exclusive prizes. The deadline to submit entries is June 6, and people can use smartphones or send in paper receipts to enter.

The prize lottery's top prize is 1,000 1/144-scale models of Char's MS-06S Zaku II with CoCoICHI finish and a spoon. The campaign is also offering 100 sets of four original Principality of Zeon spoons, 30 1/8-scale GGG Char figures with an exclusive backboard, and 500 CoCoICHI meal ticket sets worth 1,000 yen (about US$9) each.

In addition, people who spend at least 900 yen (about US$8) will be able to receive one of four Char Aznable "drill" booklets. The booklets include famous Char quotes as quizzes with explanations. The booklets discuss Char's way of life and let readers learn tips about how to survive in modern society, according to Char's perspective. The booklets will be available to download on smartphones.

The "Tanjō Akai Suisei" episode will open in Japan on May 5, and will focus on the young Zeon ace Char Aznable earning his "Red Comet" nom de guerre. The episode will also focus on the beginnings of the Federation's "Project V" weapons project that will eventually give birth to the RX-78-2 Gundam.

CoCoICHI has already collaborated with anime such as Evangelion, and Lupin the Third, and Yu-Gi-Oh!.
