Shanghai Police Seize US$42 Million in Counterfeit Figures

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

China Central Television state television broadcaster is reported on August 15 that the Shanghai police have shutdown a large-scale pirated figure factory worth approximately 4.5 billion yen/300 million yuan (US$42.3 million). The company produced numerous counterfeit figures from popular franchises including One Piece, Sailor Moon, and Pokémon as well as Hatsune Miku and Iron Man.

The factory was selling duplicate figures that typically retail for 4,500 to 5,500 yen (US$40-50) for 30 yuan wholesale (US$4) or 70-80 yuan (US$10-11) in stores.

The pirated distributor was based in Guangzhou and Dongguan with nine production lines and three warehouses. Police arrested 25 people involved in the company, seized 1,200 figure molds and approximately one million finished figures.
