Dark Horse Manga is getting ready to do the famous samurai manga Lone Wolf and Cub. The manga series is done by Kazo Koike and Goseki Kojima, and in its entirety runs over 7,000 pages. It tells the story of Itto Ogami, once the official executioner to the Shogun, who when framed for treason, rather than commit seppuku, kills those at the ceremony. In relaiation Ogami's wife is killed and he must flee with his infant son Daigoro. Dark Horse plans to reprint the entire series in 28 volumes, each of which will come in at approximately 300 pages. The first volume goes on sale on August 30th in a compact 4" x 6" format and retails for $9.95. In September Dark Horse Comic will be releasing Lone Wolf and Cub action figures. The figures, which are being produced for the Japanese market, will be manufactured at the same time as the Japanese run of figures. The PVC figures will be 6 and ¾ inches height.

In a related story, at Sakura Con, Editor In Chief of Dark Horse Manga Mike Hansen stated that they have acquired the manga rights to Akira. Epic Comics previously had the rights to this series before they folded. Akira will be coming out later this fall. Here's an exert also from Studio Proteus FAQ page concerning this title.

Yes, the books will be a nearly identical format to the original Japanese release (the "phone books," as some fans call them). The translation of the word balloon text will be based on the Marvel version with some changes, but the sound effects will be from the European black and white edition.
