Anime at Mipcom

posted on by Christopher Macdonald
Tokyopop, ADV and Bandai take Anime to Cannes, France.

MIPCOM, the 5 day trade convention in Cannes, France started today, and not surprisingly several American Anime companies are present. Perhaps a bit different from past years however, the American companies are there to sell their titles.

MIPCOM is a trade convention centered primarilly on TV series licensing, its a place for TV show producers and licensors to display their products to an international cast of would be licensees.

Anime News Network is aware that ADV Films, Bandai Entertainment and Tokyopop are at MIPCOM with titles to show/sell.

Tokyopop has been making noise all year about Initial D, so its no surprise that they brought it with them to MIPCOM 2002. “TOKYOPOP is already gearing up for an exciting fall 2003 roll-out of Initial D in the U.S. market. With the tremendous success and established track record that both of these properties enjoy worldwide, we feel uniquely positioned and ready for each franchise to continue to build momentum during this market,” said Stuart Levy, the company's Chairman & CEO.

Bandai Entertainment is on of the co-producers and the international (non-Asia) licensor of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, so its no surprise that they are showing the title off at MIPCOM as well.

ADV Films is taking a significant number of titles, both Anime and non-Anime, to MIPCOM.

"The strength of our available properties this year is really unprecedented," said Griffin Vance of ADV's licensing division. "MIPCOM is the ideal one-stop setting for meeting potential licensees and for discussing the exciting opportunities each of our properties has to offer."
