Gainax, Hiroyuki Yamaga Working on 2 Unnamed Projects

Fall show with Gurren Lagann/TokiKake animation director Kubota as designer

Gainax studio co-founder Hiroyuki Yamaga revealed at California's FanimeCon on Friday that his company is working on an unnamed television anime for fall release. Four staffers of Gainax's last television series, Gurren Lagann — Yamaga, former Gainax board member and producer Takami Akai, producer Yasuhiro Takeda, and assistant director Masahiko Ohtsuka — appeared at the panel that was titled "What's a Gainax, and a Day in the Life at Gainax." However, more staffers of Gurren Lagann — designer Shigeto Koyama, mechanical designer Yoh Yoshinari, animation director Sushio, 25-year veteran animation director Fumio Iida, key animator Hitomi Hasegawa, and animation director Chikashi Kubota — agreed to an autograph and sketch session after the panel.

Kubota revealed that he is designing the characters in the next Gainax project and previewed a princess character from it. Kubota was an animation director on both The Girl Who Leapt Through Time film and episode 14 and 24 of Gurren Lagann. He also drew the eyecatch illustration for episode 14 as well as key animation frames for several episodes of Gurren Lagann. In addition to the fall television series, Yamaga described a separate unnamed project for which he visited England before FanimeCon for research.
