Viz Media has announced that the first episode of the Blue Dragon anime, adapted from the eponymous Xbox game, will be available for free on XBox Live until March 2. The first 13-episode of the 51-episode series are available on XBox Live. Additional episodes cost 160 Microsoft Points to download from the service.
Earlier this week Viz announced the availability of first episode of Blue Dragon on Apple's iTunes Store for free until March 10. The first 13 episodes are available on iTunes.
The first two episodes of the Blue Dragon anime were released for free on XBox Live in Japan in November 2007.
The anime adapts an Xbox 360 roleplaying game that was co-created by Final Fantasy's Hironobu Sakaguchi and designed by Dragon Ball creator and Dragon Quest game designer Akira Toriyama. It tells the story of Shu, a boy who protects his village from an ancient enemy by invoking the Blue Dragon from his own shadow. For the anime version, director Yukihiro Matsushita (Maria-sama ga Miteru, Zipang) worked with Studio Pierrot(Bleach, Naruto). Tsuneo Ninomiya (Maple Town Stories, Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie) adapted Toriyama's designs and Megumi Oohashi (Mobile Suit Gundam MS IGLOO, The Third: The Girl with the Blue Eye) expanded upon Nobuo Uematsu's game music.
