Romanov Higa's Turd on the Run Anime to Debut in Fall (Updated)

posted on by Egan Loo
Near-future suspense action story named after Rolling Stones song

Not-So-Daily Link of the Day: Turd on the Run, the newest anime project from director Romanov Higa (Catblue: Dynamite, TANK S.W.A.T. 01, Urda), was revealed at Tokyo International Anime Fair (TAF) 2009 last week. The near-future suspense action story centers around a serial killer named Holiday Ripper. Instead of a death sentence, the courts threaten Holiday Ripper with the Eye Popper: a new device that forces an inmate's eyeballs out of their sockets if he or she tries to escape. The 12 six-minute anime shorts will stream online starting in early fall. (The project is named after a 1972 song by the English rock band The Rolling Stones.)

Higa was announced as the director of the Appleseed: Genesis television anime series at last year's TAF. However, the animation studio Radix mobanimation sued the production company Micott & Basara on September 26 over supposedly unpaid production costs for Appleseed: Genesis. A September 27 profit warning from Radix mobanimation's parent company Wedge Holdings confirmed that production on Appleseed: Genesis had been halted.
