Viz's Shonen Jump to Run Latest One Piece Chapters (Update 2)
posted on by Egan Loo
The North American publisher Viz Media has revealed on Thursday that it plans to publish the latest chapters of Eiichiro Oda's One Piece pirate manga in the English Shonen Jump magazine. The latest chapters from Japan will start their English magazine run this fall. The story follows a rubber-bodied pirate captain named Monkey D. Luffy and his motley crew as they seek the "One Piece" treasure of a legendary pirate king. The North American distributor Funimation will start streaming the latest episodes of One Piece's television anime adaptation within an hour of their Japanese broadcast on May 30.
Viz Media already publishes the manga in compiled book volumes, and it will publish the 21st volume on June 2. However, the Japanese publisher Shueisha shipped the manga's 53rd volume (pictured at right) in March; that volume has sold over 1.7 million copies as of May 10.
Last month, Viz Media began posting the weekly chapters of Rumiko Takahashi's RIN-NE manga online within a day of their Japanese publication in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine. Viz's Shonen Jump is starting Stan Lee and Hiroyuki Takei's Ultimo manga this spring, after publishing a "Chapter 0" prologue in August. The manga began its regular Japanese run in Shueisha's Jump Square magazine in February, after the prologue was published in Japan last spring.

Update 2: Chapter 1 of Ultimo will appear in the July issue of Shonen Jump, which ships on June 2.
